Looking for some ideas for myself.
Must be cheap.
Must smell nice.
Must last a long time.

Currently I use Old spice as it fulfills the first two conditions. However I find it doesn't last very long. Also the wife doesn't like it but I suspect she won't like anything I buy.

I did try a few samples recently. I think it was Crabtree and Evelyn Lime which lasted the longest by far and was quite pleasant. I can't remember the price but it was probably too expensive.

Not fussy on fragrance. I would love for there to be a coconut flavour but I think I'm out of luck there.

Obsession Night for men - dark blue bottle - TK Maxx.

That's got more than a hint of coconut.

Any of the Taylor fragrances, esp. Mr Taylor which is a spicy-citrussy blend suitable for any occasion.

These days, I live of three Taylor fragrances exclusively: Mr Taylor, Victorian Limes and Sandalwood.
At 18 GBP per 100 ml bottle, they are great value for money.

Taylors Sandalwood is superb for the price, one of my favourites.
I like the Speick stuff too, great value.

My fave is the proraso splash.Great price too.I think you can get about 6 litres for a quid in Italy
Why not have a look at the sample decant club that Paul runs?

OK suggestion time.
I have a bottle of Lloyds pharmacy witch hazel. Nice, cheap, happy.
Is there something I could add to this to make my own budget aftershave?
If so, where could I buy it from?

Glycerin.

Probably available from the same shop as witch hazel.

Don't know the ratio witch hazel:glycerin though.

If you're on a budget, perhaps give good ol' Tabac Original a try. Has a loyal following and garners some good write-ups (as well as a few bad ones) on basenotes.net (see link below). Plus you can pick it up practically anywhere: Lloyds Pharmacy, Boots, discount fragrance shops etc. Don't care for it myself, but that's me:

I highly recommend Yves Saint Laurent's Rive Gauche AS (also available in EDT). Described as a modern take on a typical barbershop scent, it's available at a reasonable price (IMO) at discount fragrance shops and online. Lovely stink, not a million miles away from the Old Spice vibe, and one my missus actually likes - maybe yours will, too. Check out the reviews on basenotes:

Nape

OK, so I've got some essential oils and a spray/atomiser.

To make a cologne do I mix EO with alcohol (denat?) then just shake and spray?

I see a new hobby looming . . . .
