I'm revisiting a shaving soap company I looked into about a year or so ago called the First Canadian Shave Co. At the time, Canada was not the hotbed for soap artisans but what a difference a year makes. Some of the best performing soaps come from Canada and FCSC is no exception. Brian Hoffman the owner really has some amazing products and I'll be reviewing the tallow, lanolin & silk based shaving soap called Esther's Peppermint & Grapefruit for this review.

The packaging hasn't changed much since the first time I used it. The same label design and see through plastic tub are used with screw on lids. Sadly, the problem with the side and bottom labels still remains the lettering can rub off with ease during normal use.

The combination of peppermint and grapefruit is just great. The scent strength was slightly above mid range from the tub and seemed predominantly peppermint for me. During my shave the scent increased slightly but I noticed when applying the lather, the peppermint stood out and when I was shaving the grapefruit jumped to the front. It was kind of strange but I never detected both scents at the same time.

Placing the soap in the lathering bowl was not a problem. The brush I used was one that didn't have that much backbone and I was able to create some of the most amazing lather, rich and creamy which provided great coverage and was able to penetrate my beard with ease. The Slickness and glide was present during the entire shave.

So if you haven't tried First Canadian Shave Co. soaps don't wait or you'll be missing out on a great shave.
