I have one and I love it. I think the 4 plate is about the same as my R89. a the 3/1 plate is great with a feather blade. it is a very forgiving razor and by that I mean you don't get many nicks or cuts using it,
Well a funny thing, because I just recently managed to try out the DE89 which for some reason I avoided so far. It's a tame razor indeed and the feel is comparable to the Rockwell on 3 or 4, but I still find the Rockwell more comfortable. The Rockwell is more efficient by far though.
So @Steve Bowles, my experience is just the opposite of yours (assuming the Muhle head being the same as the DE89); the Rockwell turned out to be more efficient as well as more comfortable than the DE89. YMMW.
Slants are a different story, I find my X3 gentler and less efficient than the Rockwell so I guess it's got a niche on it's own
Despite its industrial looks (looks like some tool you could get from B&Q).........
6C on #2 plate for me. #3 was just a bit too harsh.@Steve the Rockwell on 2 and 3 is more efficient and just as smooth as the M1. I use plate 3 almost exclusively I haven't even tried the plates above 3 as it just hit the sweet spot for me there. It's a much better razor than the M1 for me. I do not even miss it not being SS.
