Russian Roulette : There is gold in Mostochlegmash, tested five different blades over the last few month, Sweedish, Platinum Lux, Stainless , Sputniks and Voskhod.

The Voskhod works best across most of my razors and particularly well in the New and EJ89. This blade is in to the first three tops now:

1.Labs
2. Lazer Plats
3.Voskhod


The closet to the Voskhod was Gillette Platinum.

Results: with the £8 left from the December shaving budget I bought a 100, this will last a long long time with each Voskhod giving at list 4 brilliant shaves. £6.42/100 I can't believe there is any profit in this!

Post: Thayer's witch hazel, followed by Village Barber balm
Face needed a bit of a scrub this afternoon, so whipped out my R400 boar and took to face-lathering.
First time shaving with this beer soap (made with Newcastle brown ale) and boy is it slick. Smells great too, kind of a deep smoky barbershop scent. Quick 2-pass DFS to clear the way for cuddles on the couch with Mrs. Smartepants. ;)

My 1st SOTD posting. New Years Evening Shave.

Preshave: face wash with Simple soap. Oiled with Musgo Real Preshave.
Lather:GFT Coconut soap with TOBS Grapefruit shaving cream.
Brush: Rod Neep silvertip Malachite Barrel
Razor: Feather AS-DS
Blade: Timor. (3)
Balm: Nivea AS balm.
AS: Issey Miyake pour homme:

Result: lovely 2 pass evening shave whilst Mrs C. watches the last 2 episodes of Sex and the City for the 30th time! Very smooth result. No cuts or nicks and the Feather delivers yet again and I'm impressed with the Timor blade. A very refreshing start to 2015. Happy New Year everyone.

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

vintage amber Made Rite #74 badger fine for creams
Schick F type injector/Gillette Platinum Plus (NOS)
XPEC SC
Lucky Tiger AS and Face Tonic
Guerlain 'Habit Rouge' EdT


The F type called to me and I popped in a fresh vintage Platinum Plus blade. Good as those old vintage Schick or Personna blades can be, this one tops em all. It leaves me a little smoother when done.....very sharp old things.

Almost got out the M type adjustable but why? The F shaves me even better, crazy as that is.

The XPEC lathered up easily, even when using this floppy old brush with a beautiful handle. Much as I like butterscotch, the amber handles are my druthers. Man this cream is slick.....about like using a soap. The scent is a rush.

Absolutely terrible shave. Nicks, weepers burn and irritation.

Really don't understand this. Prep was good, lather was excellent, nothing I haven't used before. In fact they are all regulars.

Only thing it can be is the rapira, first shave so may have got a rogue blade.

In a bad mood now.

I'm using a Rapira SS currently. The first two shaves I had with it using my ATT R1 were very close and felt like I'd taken half a layer of skin off. Today's third shave was way better - guess it was super sharp or burred at the beginning.
