S.O.T.D. Saturday 28th March to Friday 3rd April 2015

Prep: Dove soap
Soap: Tabac.
Brush: Grooming co Synthetic badger.
Razor: Razorock Jaws OC.
Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux #2
Post: LEA sensitive balm.

I got a wee bit carried away today, started with the intention of completing a 3 pass shave and actually did 4 passes, WTG, XTG west to east, east to west and finally ATG. Incredibly smooth shave with no cuts, weepers or irritation, the tabac did a brilliant job of protection, the blade seemed to glide across this morning. BBS for the first time in a long while.

Have an great day folks.

Jim

Ever Ready 'Shovel Head' Patent Anniversary (1924)

Prep: Hot shower
Pre: Noxzema Cleansing cream
Soap: Cella
Bowl: Fine Accoutrements
Brush: Vie-Long Horse Hair 13061M
Razor: Ever Ready 1924 + templ8 80mm
Blade: Gem (4) + shim
After: Benjamin's Bay Rum (menthol) AS, RSC ASB

Celebrating 1924 for the first time (I was wasn't born when it came round the first time) with the Shovel Head SE. I've been reading Fergiebilly's comments about using a shim under the blade spine to replicate the true thickness of the thicker old SE blades back in the day. I don't have spare blade spine at the mo. so I've used three thin strips of insulation tape stuck on the blade's spine on top of each other. I reckon that's about the same thickness as the shim or maybe only 2 strips.
The result didn't convince me though. The shave felt harsher than I remember getting from the 1924 so I think I'll stick with the regular blade. I'll try out the shim tomorrow though in a different SE.

Happy Days.

Nuage Shaving Oil
Nivea originals cream w/added Olbas oil (1 drop)
Vulfix 28 Pure Boar Bristle, face lathered.
Jagen David B30 (Weishi clone)
Rapira SSS (3)
Alum block
Homemade Witch Hazel/Olbas oil A/S
Nivea sensitive balm

The Jagen David B30 was my 1st DE razor. Still have a bit of love for it. The case it came with is a big bonus.
3rd use of the Rapira SSS. Final use, as it started to drag a bit at the 3rd pass.
The Witch Hazel/Olbas oil A/S was a  developed from from Paul (pjgh)

I did want a menthol hit!!

Third day with the Lersche #51.
Another good - but maybe not earthshatteringly good - shave - I think I started out with somewhat unrealistic expectations :)

Razor: Leresche #51
Blade: Rapira
Brush: L'Occitane Plisson
Soap: Arko
A/S: Anherb
