Hi everyone I purchased what I believe to be a Gillette British Set no 59.
However according to Mr Razor they are marked Brit Pat 694 093 and weigh 71g.
Now mine looks the same but has Patent Pending and weighs 80g, it is also incredibly shiny for a supposedly nickel plated razor, could it be rhodium or just NOS ( I have owned a NOS Slim and it looks incredibly shiny compared to that). It also has the Gillette stamp and Made in England stamp.
The ad also states the seller is unsure which model it is.
I picked it up off ebay the picture included is from ebay and a very nice price which I was happy to pay and I believed to be a fair price, any advice?
(It also comes with a blue blade dispenser)
Thanks

It certainly looks like a #58, but let's explore a few possibilities

Gillette in short have 4 types of plating on the British TTO models:

1. Standard Nickel (most)
2. Highly Polished Nickel (Aristocrat Juniors / #58)
3. Rhodium (Aristocrats, TV Special & Traveller Deluxe)
4. Gold (plate & anodised)

I suspect that it could fall into Category 2 or possibly have even been buffed. Nickel when highly polished can easily be confused with Rhodium.

Smaller weight variances have been documented: https://www.badgerandblade.com/foru...-between-the-rocket-hd-500-and-the-59.192847/ but not 9g. It may be worth checking your scales

My initial thought looking at the razor was an aristocrat junior. Could be way off the mark though. :)

My scales are a bit rubbish, I just found out they go up in 10's so it may be 71g and the scales rounded it up to 80g, however here is the link to me razor http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/One-Piece solid guard bar/1955 No59.JPG mine has the same case, same blade dispenser and the razor looks the same and possibly weighs the same however it says patent pending but according to here http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/gillette-rocket-the-refined-de.8590/ #7 confirms that it is in fact a brass and copper #59 and it is in immaculate condition, so immaculate I don't want to use it, but I buy razors to use them. I will upload some pics later on I'm the Acquisitions thread.

I'd guess your scales round down from 71g to 70g and up from 75+g to 80g. Wouldn't make sense for them to round up by 9 grammes.

That's what I thought but they might not be programmed to do that, if it's over 70 is probably programmed to go to 80. Moral of the story invest in decent scales
