Silly question?

Creams are quicker to lather, they have some water in them already.

Maybe this gives more time & your shave isn't rushed in the slightest, hence, the closer result?

Having said that, there is definately a noticeable difference when switching soap. Some do cut better than others esp P&B. There was an interesting experiment conducted by @nick_s , a few of us tried 2 creams & a croap blind, then rated them:

The one thing I hoped to get was an entirely impartial view on the soaps latherability (Is that a word? It is now!) and performance, not allowing the name of the soap to get in the way. I think it worked :)
