For last night the theme of my shave was 'If you were the only girl in the world you would have to have a strong back and other great old music hall songs'
Any old iron? - Ikon B1 standard SB
Don't have any more, Mrs Moore - ATT Colossus handle
And very nice to - Polsilver Lodz
Ta-ra-ra Boom-de-ay - Razorock 24mm Plissoft
Boiled beef and carrots - Gentleman's Tonic
A little bit of what you fancy - L'Occitane Cade aftershave balm (A very squeezed out tube of)
I recall when punk entered in to my life around 74/75 my mother always used to make comments down the line (Hanging out my washing on the etc etc) of 'Eeeee they don't write songs like they used to. The words are rubbish and don't make any sense'. 'What? You mean like Yes I have no bananas for sale or Those magnificent men in their flying machines, they go up tiddly up up, they go down tiddly down down?' . I never wanted to tell her that I had a certain attraction to the old music hall songs having being brought up on a diet of 'The good old day's. They were the 1940's (and whatever else's) equivalent of punk. Especially the likes of Spike Jone's and the City Slickers. Whacky mad stuff if ever
I felt I cheated you all with my last SOTD so I thought I would get off with usual digression here.
Last night was all about get in and get out. A quickie in the bathroom as George Formby probably sang.
I don't know about anyone else but I find my skin goes through different stages and at times no matter what I try to achieve shaving just doesn't happen. Last night was quite the antithesis to this and it felt like I could have happily shaved with a kitchen knife and gotten great results. However the dilemma was I needed to shift 2 days growth and get my ass up on to the ship's bridge.
There was only one real choice and that was the kitchen knife equal in the wash bag, the Ikon SB. A razor which could confidently carve a Sunday roast. Admittedly they would be very thin and very narrow strips of meat. But as a razor great results can be easily had with the minimum of passes. On this occasion I got it down to a single WTG pass and a touch of touching up (Another Formby song?) with a few strokes of XTG. Amazingly a brilliant close, comfortable and satisfying finish. As smooth as the City Slickers. Not quite babies bottoms, but comparable to that stretched shiny finish created by bottoxing. Eeeeeeek!
I am sure Ikon is the Greek God of shaving.
In all honesty it is a wonderful piece of simplistic engineering. I don't have any other razor which can match it for precision shaving and efficiency. So much so when I get home I will be thinning down my razor collection to the Ikon, the General and the Timeless 68. The Timeless because I need something to stare at in awe. Everything else to appear on BST in due course.
The brush I could happily live with as the only brush in the cabinet, being my idea of what a brush should be and what a brush is supposed to do. If you were the only brush in the world..............etc etc etc
As far as creams go I remain that the GT is still up near the top branches in the cream tree. I love this product and I love trees. I find it difficult to hug a Major Oak though.
Not much left to squeeze out of this present tube of Cade aftershave balm but fortunately I do have an unsqueezed of the same back home awaiting a loving hug. It will last the distance even if I have to use a pair of pliers for the last of the contents.
So a most welcome and happy shave last night. I have already gone down the bottoms road so I will give any further ramblings a miss. I imagine by now you are probably stabbing yourselves in the head with a fork as you enjoy your full English so I will leave you in peace.
Have a great day chaps
