Tygers of (frying) Pan Tang by Tefal
I have always felt somewhat jealous of those beautiful photos which appear here on SOTD and include some gorgeous pressed steel tins (usually soaps) and in the main a straight razor. So to relieve some of that jealous pressure on myself; tonight's theme was based on gathering as many 'steel' looking shaving accoutrements as I could rattle together and throwing them all in to a frying pan. The Mexican cereal bowl is anything but metallic. Heavy ceramic anyone? Unfortunately I do not own a straight (working towards it) and so the Timeless 0.95 was as near as I could get with an industrially heavy persona about it.
One day
This is only the second time out for the 95 and what a masterful piece of engineering it is and as to be expected of Timeless. Everything about it just exemplifies quality from the fit to the finish via the aesthetics. Rob998 thought it looked scary but in use it is anything but. Quite a normal shave angle (unlike the Ikon) and for a razor with such a large blade gap it is a real pussy cat to come to terms with. Mind you I once had a beautiful long furred cat which enticed people to give her a nice stroke then would happily rip them to shreds. Respect the cat. I would place it in the aggressive family of razors but so far I have always found a real quality close shave to be had from this particular genre and the 95 is no different. Three passes this evening and just when I thought all was complete the Timeless continued to find and eliminate those rogue bristles which thought they'd done a good job of hiding away from the Polsilver. Not only is this razor in the heavy metal category it has feedback which would make Kerry King proud.
The Polsilver is a perfect partner. I have tended to shy away from my old favourite the Feather after experiencing inconsistent quality and as well known, a short life. The Lodz blades I find have no such sides and a reasonable longevity in regards to maintaining a working edge.
After going through a period some years back where I used nothing but Cade cream this recent purchase is a nice reminder of exactly why I rated Cade so highly at the time. Nothing has changed and it remains an all round wonderful cream in every way from the scent, the lather, its shaving properties and the fact a little goes a long way. Plus I am happy they have moved away from tubs to steel tubes as otherwise my photo would have included a 'not very metal' plastic jar.
The brush I am falling in love with. I adore the longer than usual handle and it allows me to really grasp the brush to whip it around in a frenzy of lather producing action. It is certainly more authoritative than my two Muhle brushes and takes control of the brush side of the story. A welcome and brilliant addition to the shaving cabinet and makes Iron Maiden look like the Hand Maiden.
L'Occitane Cade aftershave balm? Comes in a steel tube and so makes it a matching themed item. Other than that I can't think of any balm or moisturiser which does better for my skin.
To top this evening's shave off what could be better than Bvlgari Man in Black? I consider this a real heavy duty scent. Non of this flowery, citrus scent here. This is layers of heavy and compelling aroma with somewhere hiding beneath it all a slightly sweet edge. It makes a statement and lets everyone know you have arrived. In fact it lets them know several hours in advance.
One wonderful and refreshing shave this evening and a very nice end to the day. I do love my heavy music and this was a shave worthy of the best metal has to offer. I do apologise that you have had to endure several minutes of head banging music to get this far but it would have been worthless without some musical support. So to end this SOTD on I have one final shaving themed piece of music.
Have a great day tomorrow chaps and wish you all the best
