That sinking feeling when you are far from home on extended work assignment, set up for your first shave, and realise you forgot to pack your shaving brush into your wet pack. I can see it now, happily ensconced in its gray plastic travel cylinder, sitting on my kitchen table.
Well, one must make do. Thankfully, I had my trusty Myrsol Emulsion roll-on, which was applied copiously as a pre-shave. I had also packed Cella, a relatively soft soap. I bloomed it well, and lathered up by hand. By no means an impressive looking lather, but I did not stop until I could feel slickness and it had a wee bit of sheen. I plunged ahead, taking great care with my technique.
I'm happy to report that the NOS Wilkie and Merkur Futur glided nicely around my face. Did not push it beyond 2 passes, but I can honestly say that the closeness was DFS. A tiny patch of irritation on the neck, immediately rectified by the Myrsol Emulsion post-shave.
Whilst I'm not recommending it unless circumstances dictate, it is surprising how good a shave you can get with equipment limitations, provided most of your kit is good quality gear, and you concentrate.
