SOTD (Song of the Day)

Today's tune (the song that's been going round in my head) is 'Steeltown' by Big Country.

It's a song about my home-town, Corby, and its long-gone (well, nearly) steel industry.

So what's your song/piece of music of the day? What tune has been rattling round your nut?

P.S. Funnily enough, I was watching Corby-Boy Brendan Coyle tonight in one of those TV costume dramas -- a relative of the late, great Sir Matt Busby.

Waterloo Sunset - The Kinks.

There was some kind of disco / party at the airfield at the back of the golf course yesterday and they were playing a load of stuff by The Kinks.

Obviously just for the 'oldies' who'd turned up early because by the time we came back round it was all Oasis - for the 'not quite so oldies'.

We were off the course before Jedward got an airing.

SONG of the day tends to be the last on I heard in the car before arriving at work.

Today, It's Queensryche and Empire. 80's metal, but there you go.

I saw Big Country in '89 at the Victoria Hall in Hanley. One of the best gigs that I have ever been to. Never seen an audience so "into it". Everybody jumped up and down and sang for the entire gig.

I also caught Stewart Adamson's guitar pick, and got to meet him after the show to sign my tour book. Such a shame that he's no longer around.

Saw them in Belfast on the Steeltown Tour in Dec '84 - I don't think The Cult supported them here - more's the pity. First time I'd seen projected backdrops for a band; I remember being blown away by the look and sound. I love the first two albums and Restless Natives title track ;-)

SOTD is 'Busy Bein' Born' by Middle Class Rut.

Made the mistake of getting the new T. Jones CD Praise & Blame, haven't been able to stop listening to it every time I'm in the car now. "If I give My Soul" is the track which just wont exit my wee heid.

JohnnyO.

I looked out a bunch of old cd's when we were driving down to the borders a week or two ago.

I left 'Rap Attack' in the cd player, an early ninties rap compilation

My wife and daughter are now fans of De La Soul, Gang Starr and Arrested Development.

Mr Wendal is playing in the car several times per journey.

Certainly beats listening to Sophie Ellis Bextor.

When I'm feeling particularly low, this song never fails. Evokes happy memories of 'Blues' parties up in Preston.

I love the sound of the trumpet.
