The Scots word for Saxon.
We're a funny lot, if you mistakenly call a Welsh person English, they'll proudly state they're Welsh, which derives from the Saxon word for foreigner.

Like most jocks I've been called an awful lot worse ! And, hopefully, most of my countryfolk and I aren't such shrinking violets that we're hurt or offended by a harmless piece of slang.
