Valet Autostrop VC1 Replating.

I've had this Valvet a while now, and while it's not a basket case I've always wondered what it would look like after a bit of a freshen up so I figure it's time to fire up the plating tank!

I wanted the whole kit to match so it was a case of stripping out all the metal parts. This meant emptying the blade holder and removing the strop carrier from the main box.

It also required the metal clasp removing from the strop.

So this is what I was working with......

The clasp was pretty gunky on the inside and a bit battered on the outside.

The blade box had seen better days.

As had the strop carrier.

The razor itself, as I said wasn't disastrous, just some brassing in places and a touch weathered.

So with all the bits apart the first thing was to give them a nice long soak in some boiling sodium bicarbonate solution, about 20 minutes seemed to do the trick :)

Once all the parts were thoroughly rinsed it was time for a light sand of any problem areas and a good polish.

Sorry about the gloves, the important thing at this stage is to keep everything a clean and grease free as possible, hence the fetching hand wear!

Next stages were various chemical cleaning baths and finally a well earned soak in the plating tank.

And here it is in all its glory :)

The final stage was just putting it all back together :)

Thanks for looking, and sorry for the very long post!!!
