I was recently asked if I could source some sample slate for a worktop, so I did a quick Google found some manufacturers that offered free samples and asked for examples of honed slate for worktops/cills.
One company sent this free sample today
it measures 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 7/8" it's dressed flat and polished on one side, it slurries up and performs identically to a DT, there is enough meat on the narrow side to cut a long slurry stone and still leave a 2 1/2" or slightly wider hone.
I'm not suggesting everyone bombards Welsh slate companies for free samples but..........
