What is PIF?

SOTD is the Shave Of The Day section of the forum, where you will see a weekly thread, started by whoever is first to post their shave report on a Saturday morning. Often with excellent photography. It's a nice way of sharing your pleasure in a shave with people who share the interest.

It's a pun (sort of, in the haha only serious way) on pay it back. In a PIF you do not reciprocate a random act of kindness, you actually perform the random act of kindness (in advance so to say), under the (mutual) understanding that if everyone does this, the world will be a better place (or something to that effect).

I think it originated in the 'hacker' community as defined in a.o. the Jargon File, aka the New Hackers' Dictionary.

That would be a loan, not a pif. Also not uncommon on this fine forum.

Well, that would depend a little on your definition of loan, but it could well be that something gets PIFed on repeatedly (wonder why ;-) ) and inadvertently ends up at the original owner. Sort of like the wedding ring in the fish...
