Who loves Denim?

I am strangely drawn to this seventies classic, sounds good on base notes too.

I like it. I remember the ads, denim shirt being opened by, gasp! a lady, then the guy stopping her. Young Rangers thought " Having some of that" Got it from santa, next thing I was  a lithe young panther of sex. Not!

Tony it's in TJ Hughes for buttons.

It's funny, but I laughed at Hando when he suggested Denim as part of a swap.

Last week, while browsing the aisles at a TJ Hughes, Mrs Nape and I saw a bottle of Denim going for about £3. Curiosity got the better of me and I opened it up to have a sniff of the juice my dad and her dad used to wear back in the day. You know what? It wasn't half as tacky as I thought it might be. Definitely reformulated - not as strong or as nostril-burning as I remember. Quite a pleasant soapy fragrance in fact. She bought a bottle for her dad for a bit of a joke; my sister-in-law had a sniff yesterday and actually thought it quite sexy. So there.

Personally, I'd rather take my chances with this beauty below. According to a scientific survey, "60% of the time, it works every time!":

;)

I think TJ Hughs is Northern outlet only, is it like a posh pound shop?

Blyth, I'm trying to see past this naff tag, everything from that era was naff but it might just smell quite good to me who knows?

 I thought you lot were joshing about Sex Panther, that's like buying DEATH cigarettes.

Who loves Denim?

Whizz to 27 minutes ish to find out...

PS As impressions shows go I thought this had some funny moments.

who's laughing now then

it might be a watered down version of the old school classic (as most are now) but it's still boggin.

Tony save your £3

Don't let me put you off Antdad, I'm just getting grumpier as i get older. Seventies stuff seems almost compulsory now on various forums. Hells bells, I used to hate Tabac too, I think its terrific now. Try Mandate as a good seventies AS or a German make called 'Marbert Man' (honestly ) I picked up in Osnabruck in 1980.

Not everything was naff it was more a little real life transition from the ending of the austerity of the post war years to overt consumption of the eighties. The music was a key component ranging from progressive hard blues-rock to new romanticism.

I even thought that 'Life on Mars' was a tad too PC for the seventies to be accurate.

;)

I tried the Denim A/S in the shop not long after shaving, and...! as an A/S it worked really well, smell wasn't terribly strong but worked well on the fizzer.

Regards

I remember this scent from the 80-s when it was still around - a somewhat leathery chypre with citrus opening notes, flowery heart and musky-leather drydown. It would be interesting to come across the bottle again.

I can definitely smell shite!!

Rejoice in the naffness

You're right though, I suppose things get stereotyped/oversimplified then lumped together and viewed smugly through a filter by some people who decide to invent the 'seventies' and then label it naff. But look at how music changed through that decade, how fashions changed, the huge social. political and economic changes, and then I think there was a hell of a lot going on. Heston Blumenthal said something about some recipes being labelled as seventies and then given the naff/crap tag because of it, but if you actually tasted it again it could be delicious if well made. I think he mentioned chicken maryland and black forest gateau. Well I love them both.

Certainly some of the TV was excellent; Morecambe and Wise, Blakes Seven, Porridge, Dads Army, the Pertwee/Baker Dr Whos, Rising Damp......mind you I caught an episode of 'On the buses' recently and it was complete pish....

That website selling Sex Panther!

Like a virtual Market Stall, unbelievable and yet seemingly real.
