Who's our resident SuperMax specialist?

I predict the latter will be too aggressive for you, but we shall see.

I used it last night and found it ... oddly ... VERY mild.

It the next razor purchase that'll have you sneering at me. I'll reveal when it arrives. Meanwhile, the Rocca is just lovely.

The Rocca is a class act !

Today I dug out an old new Super-Max Platinum blade and what a shi&^y shave!! I even switched the blade mid-shave to another razor in hope of salvaging something. Even that "Hail Mary" fell flat!! o_O Just simply not up to snuff. (n)

I'll beg the question, which SuperMax Platinum ... as there are a few!

This one?

... or the SuperMax+ Platinum Plus ... or the SuperMax Super Platinum ... or the SuperMax Blue Diamond Platinum?

Personally, I hated the SuperMax Blue Diamond Platinum and rated it very lowly, just a tick above Muhle/Merkur/Personna. If you tried the one in the picture, I find that interesting as I did enjoy the regular Vidyut/SuperMax Stainless (Economy) and found it very much akin to the Gillette London Bridge (if not a touch better) that I'd used just prior. The SuperMax+ Platinum Plus is not one that I've tried but there are reports above about it being smooth enough and keen enough, so guess 6/10 or 7/10?

Now, the SuperMax Super Platinum which is of the same sort of design as the current green pack Stainless with three stripes at the left hand side (although themselves discontinued ... Jeez! Who can fathom the ways of SuperMax) is a blade that both myself and @donnie_arko are running through at the moment. He's one shave ahead of me and it seems he enjoyed the shave but hated the regrowth off the first shave and happily mowed it off with the second - we've yet to hear how he's getting on today. My first shave went very well and I found it particularly smooth and quite efficient with regrowth today being perfectly good, consistent and not at all irritable.

As per other folks' experience, I'm finding the SuperMax Super Platinum to be quite akin to the old SuperMax Blue Diamond Titanium, a blade I very much like ... but have not used for a few years and really need to try again, just to check.

Interesting ... so, which Platinum did you use? I wonder if that's the blade that ended up in the UAE as EuroMax Platinum, which is reputed to be an old SuperMax blade made on their old equipment. That is a blade I absolutely hated and ... yes, removed during the first run which is something I have literally never done with any other blade, even Muhle/Merkur!

Paul, I have a few blades I said I would send out to you, I completely forgot about the SuperMax+ Platinum Plus, I think I might have a few left - I will find them and include them.

I've been using a Supermax Super Platinum in my Yaqi Katana for the last 3 shaves, and it's worked really well, I'd say it was at it's sharpest on the 3rd shave today but a touch less smooth but the results were great today.

Cool, cool! Smashing razor, the Katana ... right?

Second run with the SuperMax Super Platinum for me tonight and I'm busting out the Gillette Tech to see what I really think of the blade. Soap? It'll be the Arko shaving stick. I'll try it in a slant tomorrow with Derby shaving stick.

Brill! I'd be interested for the sake of simply trying it ... in for a penny, in for a pound.

I didn't expect to like it as much as I do. I've not tried as many 'modern' razors as some others here but of the ones I have tried it's quickly becoming one of my favourites.

If it's the Blue Diamond Platinum, I'll disown you!

It was this one:

I have tried their Plat + and their Titanium in the past and they were not for me. Their Super Stainless was the only one that I liked. Regardless, I am not going to fiddle fart around with these any more.

Okay ... I do have a pack of those coming along with a whole stack of others (all presently stuck leaving Germany and has been since the ominous date of 31/12/2020). As above, I did enjoy that brand Vidyut/SuperMax Stainless (Economy). You have said before that the only one you liked was the green pack Super Stainless, which I do have a pack of and will no doubt try out in due course.

I'm about 50/50 with the brand so far, frustratingly enjoying the ones that have been discontinued.

More to come, although I've vowed to finish my run through Treet next month ...

At some point this year, I hope to have run through all the Treet, Lord and SuperMax blades to have at least a bare bones guide to each of the brands. While we're going this this pandemic, having a little project and the small joy of enjoying a shave to look forward to suddenly seems very important.

I have a theory ...

SuperMax have had a major brand revamp, just that we didn't notice because I think they've streamlined it largely in the Indian market which we only get a glimpse of in the west via certain eBay vendors.

Looking at their global site, they're down to just two double edge blades: the (new) SuperMax Blue Diamond Platinum and what appears to be an old(er) design SuperMax Super Stainless (in green pack with three yellow lines). Gone are the old SuperMax Blue Diamond Titanium, gone are the old SuperMax Platinum Plus and the Stainless, gone is the (rather good) SuperMax Super Platinum (white pack with three blue lines).

Now, over on what I think is the Indian side, there's SuperMax, Vidyut and Zorrik branding ...

There is a Super Platinum in all three lines ("With new sputtered technology ...") which I have tried from the Vidyut line so far and it put me very much in mind of the discontinued SuperMax Super Platinum mentioned above. In the SuperMax line, it's the Blue Diamond (listed as a Super Platinum "I like the way it feels ..."). I'll have a better idea once I've tried from the other brand lines, but I think that's the same blade but "with new sputtered technology" as they say.

There is also a Titanium in the SuperMax and Zorrik lines both citing "Swedish Steel" and sounding a lot like a "new and improved" SuperMax Blue Diamond Titanium. Meanwhile in the Vidyut line, there's also a Platinum Plus (again "New Improved").

What else is there?

Zorrik Talvar, a chrome blade which could be the old Supreme single/saloon blade. There's also a simple Super Stainless in the Zorrik line. It does look like the existing blue pack Vidyut/SuperMax Super Stainless and the legacy Vidyut/SuperMax Stainless (Red/Yellow pack) & Vidyut/SuperMax Platinum (White/Blue pack) are still widely available across the sub-continent as well as very popular in Indian supermarkets worldwide.

I think I can point to any/all of these (new?) blades as their old SuperMax and Vidyut/SuperMax counterparts but they're all citing "new and improved" and have other quote lines like "new sputtered technology ..." and "new robotised technology ..."

It's a revamp and a rebrand. It's perhaps less confusing when you drop the old lines and see all these extras as a new generation.

Blimey! I should get out more :geek:

Blah blah blah ...

Essentially, you've got the choice of the following:

Current global market SuperMax Bue Diamond Platinum or SuperMax Super Stainless (green pack with yellow lines).
Legacy Vidyut/SuperMax line Stainless (Economy) in red/yellow pack, Super Stainless in blue pack and Platinum in white/blue pack.
Choice of (new) Super Platinum or (new) Titanium in Vidyut, Zorrik & SuperMax lines ... but Indian market only?
Further choice of Zorrik Platinum Plus, Zorrik Talvar (Chrome) and Zorrik Super Stainless ... again, Indian market only?

Probably everything else is now discontinued.
