I so don't understand the guard concept. Why wrap a coil of wire around the blade so it can't get perfectly flat to the skin? It just leads to adding pressure in razors that for the most part, do not need it.
I used the guard blades when I first started using a Feather SS Kamisori for the sake of safety and got some great shaves from them, the wire is so thin you don't notice it when shaving, however when I got more confidence and started using the pro blades I found my shaves went from great to really great so they have there place for beginners and if you do mess up you won't need to go to hospital!I so don't understand the guard concept. This was my last roll of the dice with SE AC shaving. I have an artist club folding, an artist club straight and a Hawk and the blades were all too much for me. All very sharp and efficient but too harsh for me...
I had a similar experience with Softguards, tried twice and found very harsh and tuggy; gave up each time !I think you may be onto something here as I have also tried the Kai Mild blade in a borrowed Hawk I am using and it was harsh as well. So much so that I have have only done two 1/2 shaves & called it quits. I don't get the sharpness, but just a lot of tugging and overall harshness. I have yet to try the Feather Pro before giving the razor back to its rightful owner, which cannot be too soon if that blade shaves as harshly as well.
The Feather Pro is the ONE..We have to Remember these AC Blades were NOT Designed for Safety Razors & Some are Not Fit for Shaving the Face in My Experience..The Guards in Particular..I think you may be onto something here as I have also tried the Kai Mild blade in a borrowed Hawk I am using and it was harsh as well. I think I have hit the PODR (point of diminishing return) with these. When you are facing an experimental shave with about as much eagerness as a handjob with a handful of treble hooks it's time to reassess. I am truly glad that some people have found blissful shaving with these as there is nothing good about starting the day with a lousy rough shave that felt like using a bean can lid. As for me, I am going back to my lowly Techs and injectors after a last run with the Feather Professional blade in the Hawk and beg forgiveness for my infidelity.
You have a wonderful way with words......I would never have thought I would have seen the words "Handjob" and " Treble hooks" in the same sentenceI think I have hit the PODR (point of diminishing return) with these.
