Wilkinson Sword stick

A few people have mentioned Wilkinson Sword sticks before and how difficult they are to obtain. I found this on ebay:

Stick on its own here for £3.19 delivered for one - postage is cheaper for multiples.

I pounced on this eagerly until I realised it referred to shaving tackle. :?
(Well, they do make swords!)

Strangely....not any more! Well not for a while anyway. When i Commissioned from Sandhurst, my Gran wanted to have one made for me, engraved with capbadge, dates, and name etc, but WS don't do them any more! THere are still lots of old WS made swords around, but no new ones.

Mine ended up coming from "The Imperial Sword Company" or some such place!

The Karate Union of Great Britain used to award a genuine Wilkinson Sword to the most outstanding competitor at their annual championships. I never came close.

Were you competing in Frank Brennan's era?

Yes, but I was a lowly brown belt at that time so had no illusions of ever making it to the finals to face him.

My team did once fight Ronnie Christopher's team in the Central Regions though. We lost. He's a scary dude.

Oh, and our club produced a fantastic competitor named Anna Parkin who I believe is still winning things.

this gent used to train my mate

I wonder where this stick is found then? Its obviously a budget item so it must be mass-marketed somewhere, and all the threads on the forums seem to mention the UK as the main source...hmm. :(

Other than off the Bay, you can go direct.

My local chemist had one the other day but I wasn't sure if it was new ones that were good or NOS. I remember something about blue which the stick was so I bought it to try. At £2.29 it was a bit much but it slathered very well and gave a good shave. I like the smell of Palmolive but have never had truly great results with it. Another local chemist has Erasmic sticks which I can get 3 of for the price of the Willo. The chemist checked the book and the WS sticks are still readily available and he can order them in so maybe ask in an independent chemist. They're in Chemist and Druggist which is updated every month.

The WS sticks are all blue and all good.

The WS Blue Bowl soap is less well-received :)

As for Erasmic - Arsemic would be nearer the mark... but if you must try it you want one where the first ingredient is "Sodium Tallowate". Still like shaving with glaziers' putty but better than the tallow-free version (which is like shaving with evostik)
