Have had this for around 7 years now. It's still my go to for daily wear.

Mods can you please ban Jaycey as his watches (two of which used to be mine, incidentally) are causing me a lot of envy. Thanks.

I have 3 of your watches Rev, 2 Smiths & a rather lovely Precista :)
The Precista will be with me tomorrow in the pool, brilliant watch, extremely accurate, tough and comfortable to wear ;)

And talking of envy...I wish you would stop putting photo's of beautiful trout on FB. I would love to do a bit of fly fishing and catch my own dinner!

Jaycee, 'tis true, there's been a few beauties lately. But that Explorer . . . . about a year ago I sat next to chap in a meeting and glanced down at his wrist, saw it was an old 1016. I asked him about it and he'd bought it with his first army pay packet in 1970, it had lovely patina and was almost my birth year watch ('71).

So classy, so understated - I think I like them even better than the ref 5513 Sub -- but one with aged Tritrium lume, from before R olex did all those stupid bling thing like sculpted dials (surrounding the hour markers with raised white gold edging?) and engraving R O L E X around the rehaut.

Tell you what Jaycee, meet me at the river. And bring a few of your favourite watches. We'll go fly fishing. It's a remote location, miles from anywhere and anything could happen. Accidents, I mean. There'll be deep water, maybe a shotgun discharging unexpectedly, one never knows. No witnesses. An out of the way spot. Ah, yes, fishing. Let's do it!

You have highlighted my reference to the Nokia 6610 instead of the R olex 1016 that I have on my wrist, easy mistake to make :/
It is as you say "So classy, so understated " the small diameter, 3-6-9 dial, no date, iconic style I think.
I just need to find a nice set of aged hands to swap out for the service hands on this one.

I have to agree with you whole heartly, R olex have lost the plot with their latest offerings. The new GMT Master with the ceramic bezel is....aghhh, new milgauss with funky coloured dials....aghhh
Rappers will love them:)
Woahhh...hold on, you mean you don't catch the trout on the rod & line, you use a shotgun on them :)

I might use a shotgun but not on the fish. Depends which watches you bring ;-)

1953/4 Smiths Deluxe - one of the first 17 jewel centre seconds movements (basically the same as the earlier 1215 with the subseconds at 6 o'clock -- this one even has the "15" overstamped with "17" and a low serial number).

Horn (also called pagoda) lugs - not as nice as the heavy Dennison cases but nicer than the simple snap-back Smiths-cased ones.

Lovely blued steel "sword" hands with lume infill (though oddly, the seconds hand is missing from the cannon pinion).

Dial is in reasonable condition and it keeps good time. Edit: bloody hard to photograph. I wanted to show the light reflecting off the blue steel! Oh well.

A joy to wear with a tweed jacket.

Rev, that Smiths is aging beautifully, we must find you a seconds hand for that, I will have a word with my Smiths man ;)

And here is my (another of your old Smiths Rev!) Smiths Astral Diver from yesterday.

Yes please Jaycey.
