Acquisitions - September 2024

About to toss them in the oven, are you? ;-)
I started them off in the microwave - and then finishing in the oven. They’re like a jacket - get a nice crisp shell if you finish in the oven LOL.

I must be a marketing person’s dream. As soon as I saw “last one available” I was hooked. Mind you at six and a half quid (including delivery from China) for a white marble effect handle with a 24mm STF type knot, it would be rude not to! Don’t need to shave tonight, so I can just gaze at it’s loveliness until tomorrow!

Last one available… we’ve ALL fallen for that one!

I picked up another Boots Shaving Stick (the one on the right) which I've pictured against my existing shaving stick and bottle of Freshwood for the purposes of discussion:

I wonder if we could get a fix on the date or era of the stick?

One thing I notice is that the red parallel lines are more vampiric on this new one, compared to the stick on the left and the bottle ... both of which I know are from the 2010s. My guess is 2000s for my new stick, which I'm basing on the ingredients list:

Formulation of the stick on the right (my new one):
Stearic Acid, Water, Coconut Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Perfume, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Silicate, Magnesium Sulfate, Disodium Distyrylbiphenyl Disulfonate, Sodium Chloride, CI77891

Being a bit of a soap historian/archeologist, I'm drawn to a couple of ingredients which across a list of now several hundred soaps and known dates I'm finding in soaps that are confirmed from the 2000s. This is above the general feeling that I have based off the Stearic Acid & Coconut Oil starter which is of an era prior to the highly popular palmate-first formulations of the 2010s. The lack of 'e' symbol may tell us something, given that Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 came into effect right at the end of the 2000s we sorta know it's pre-2010.

For the sake of completion, that era of formulation (for the stick on the left) reads as:
Sodium Palmate, Potassium Palmate, Potassium Stearate, Potassium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Aqua, Sodium Stearate, Glycerin, Palm Kernel Acid, Parfum, Hexyl Cinnamal, Lauric Acid, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Benzyl Benzoate, Limonene, Eugenol, Sodium Chloride, Tetrasodium Edta, Tetrasodioum Etidronate, Pentasodium Pentetate, CI 77891

Does anyone specifically recognise the stick on the right ... and better, know the era? Love to know.
