It relates to the clothing people wear, you won't generally find Paul Bunyan types wearing poodle skirts etc.

Beard hair on my neck is relentless, I don't enjoy any knitted material and even shirt collars can be problematic. Seeing a turtle neck thing on a guy makes me cringe.
