A Merkur 34c and a blade sampler pack from Connaught Shaving seems to be the common recommendation for a starter kit. Wait with the Feathre blades until last though, they are very sharp.

Vintage gillettes all the way for me.
Merk lasted a month or so. One shave from a super speed with a seven o clock yellow and I was done.
Get some of prof blightys yellow unction too. He's on the forum.
Don't look at canons open comb blades. Too scary.
If dodgy offers you 'gear' then it's the red pill from the matrix.
