A couple of months ago I watched a Razor Emporium video where they had plated a Rockwell razor with precious metal “to make it smoother “
I thought about having a go on the cheap and did a quick search but couldn't find any information. Having very limited mobility after a leg operation gave me plenty of sofa time but actually it only took a couple of hours tops and I could have done it quicker than that but wanted to make sure each stage was perfect before moving on.
I still don't really know why I did it as I don't think my 6S (favourite razor) wasn't smooth anyway?
Basically I've polished the surfaces that contact your face during a shave using Micro-Mesh (very posh wet and dry type cloth backed abrasive)
I went from 1500 up to 6000 grit and am very pleased with the results.
I did the very edge of the top cap (I may do the whole cap at some point?) and the angled facets of the bottom plate. I just did the 2&4 plate as (that's) my most used one.
It's hard to photograph with my phone but in real life it catches the light beautifully.
When I first used it afterwards I thought it made it more aggressive but that could have just been physcosomatic?
I can't tell if it gives a smoother shave either but I like the way it looks
