Tabac Original after shave
The maiden voyage for my newly acquired 37. Apparently, the head for this fellow was modelled on the original Merkur 37 before it was slightly modified. There certainly is a wider blade gap; and this, I feel, contributes to the assertiveness of the cutlery.
I love the weight of the handle supplied (steel?) and for a razor in the region of £23, the finish isn’t bad at all. Although, is finish that important, beyond aesthetics? As I read somewhere recently, razors are ‘…tools, not jewels.’
Importantly, it gave a first-class shave; 2 passes which ridiculed two days or so of bristles. Great ‘blade feel’ and very, very comfortable to use. I am going through a slant phase just now; and the 37 takes pride of place alongside the Lo Storto and Merkur 37C. I have been scouring sites for the Hoffritz Slant; but most are asking for silly prices; and the condition of some aren’t that great (the ‘tools, not jewels’ adage does have its limitations, you understand).
Anyway, a great piece of kit for the price. Highly recommended.
