Tamping down grinds in filter

After I put the grinds into the filter I use the scoop to tamp them down a bit, so they fit more across the bottom of the filter. I don't press them right down hard, just enough so the grinds are more or less level across the bottom. Does doing this make any difference, or am I just wasting the effort in doing this?

If it's a normal gravity fed or pump filter machine, don't tamp the grinds down too much or in my experience, you'll have the grinds running all over the place. [emoji15]

It's a Delonghi ICM15210. I haven't yet had any grinds pass through the filter. I don't press the grinds too much, just a simple matter of leveling them so they're even.

Your machine is designed to work under a gravity so the grinds should be loose and quite large to get an optimum extraction.
