Review: Timeless Razor's OC model

I got my order from Timeless yesterday. Here a few pictures of both the OC and SB model. Both razors have the standard handle as the design of the new 100 mm handle is not complet my taste and I have a few custom handles which will pair great with these heads. The craftmanship and finish of these razors is top level. I am unsure which one to test first but it will happen this weekend.....

Nice haul! I agree I much prefer this design of handle. Look forward to hearing your thoughts on these Motto.

Please do post your thoughts and maybe especially on the OC vs SB!

Yesterday evening I got the first shave with a Timeless Razor. As I had 4 days of grow, I went for the OC model. The complete set up incl. all software can be seen in the current SOTD thread, see post # 50

After an intensive cleaning all new or used razors get before first use, I loaded a new Bolzano Superinox blade into the OC head. The blade alignment is spot on. Beside of the quite large blade gap of 0.95 mm I would like to point out two things: One is the remarkable blade exposure while the other is the fact, how much the head curves and twists the blade.

With this in mind, I was expecting a relative aggressive shave so I started careful with me three pass routine WTG, ATG, XTG. Already after a few strokes of the WTG pass I had to conclude that aggressive not is the right word to describe the feel. The razor went through the 4 days growth WTG with actually no effort and with intensive audible feedback. Shaving angle was completely intuitive and the razor felt well balanced with the standard handle that provides great grip whit it´s not too much pronounced knurling. Describing the feel is not easy. The razor is just present all the time. You actually feel the blade on your skin, doing it´s cutting job. Another remarkable fact is that the Timeless OC actually takes almost all lather from your face when shaving. While with other OC heads a certain amount of lather remains on the skin, this the open comb takes most of the lather up. I guess this is related to head geometry and blade exposure.

After lathering up again, I went for the ATG pass. With the presence of the blade in mind I started up careful, especially as my neck sometimes reacts sensitive and with irritations. As under the first pass the goal was to let the razor with its weight and balance do the job, which actually worked very well. I tried to avoid to any pressure as I got the impression that this will perhaps be the point where this razor could bite. The result was a good ATG pass with no irritation, with its relative slim top cap the razor also performed well in the area under the nose / above the lips. With very efficient WTG and ATG passes, I had achieved a great shave and face feel for which I will need an extra pass with many other razors.

As I am a three-pass guy I lathered up again to do my normal XTG pass. This pass went well too but especially on the neck, I could feel a small amount of irritation coming up. This was certainly caused the fact that I actually was clean shaved after two passes and again the permanent presence of the blade on the skin. Skin irritation was treated easily with an alum rub right after a warm face wash.

I am very pleased this the result of this first shave with the Timeless OC. I would like to point out the extreme efficiency together with intuitive handling and the superb craftsmanship and finish.

Next step will be to explore the Timeless SB.

Best Regards

Marco

Thanks, great write-up

Would be interesting to see how this stacks up next to the blackbird for efficiency and comfort.

From my point of view it is a very close run between the Blackbird and the Timeless OC. In efficency the Blackbird perhaps scores a little bit better while I would say the Timeless gives you a small amount more confort but all this is really depends on personal choice. But these 2 razors are really different in threir character. I felt the Timeless more intuitive than the Blackbird. With the Blackbird I had (and still have) a learning curve regarding handling, angle, blade choice, etc. while the Timeless was more predictible already during the first shave.
But we should also consider that the Blackbird is an SB razor while we are looking at thr OC Timeless at the moment. It will be interesting to see how the Timeless SB feels in relation to the OC version and to the Blackbird.

Thanks Marco, the reason I ask is the blackbird is the closest in terms of end results to an SE razor, however my open comb collection is missing something similar. Also it's a beautiful piece of engineering so thinking of getting the head.
