S.O.T.D. Saturday 29th April to Friday 5th May 2017

Prep - Noxzema / Hot towel
Pre shave - Proraso
Razor – Weber ARC
Blade – Permasharp
Brush - 'The Archduke' (Brad Sears Archduke 26/50 2-Band Manchurian)
Soap – Van Yulay – Black Cavendish
Post - Cold water rinse, Tallow + Steel – Dark Aftershave

Ah, that's better... there's a reason why Van Yulay soaps are 5* in my view...outstanding performance, and post shave feel. :D

Pre-meeting shave:
Exec Shaving pre,...going back to this as I think I prefer the fact that it's water-soluble,..smells nicer too than BBA,...(sorry Emma)
SV 2.0 (The Guv'nor)
The Sap..Felce Aromatica (new blend,...great tin)
ATT S2/ Astra (2)
Alum
BBA Bloody Balm
Creed Millisime Imperial EdC

Superb shave from a pretty much, go-to shave set-up great smell from The Sap,..no dramas, left the balm to sink in as I didn't want to go into the meeting looking like him off "Flog it".
All good,...espresso, then off out,...Toodle-pip!

Afternoon gents,

Last nights shave report below and my 12th SR shave... Not sure it can really count though as I only had one pass on my face (left my neck alone) with the straight before moving on to the Tradere to finish up.

First the brush and soap combo. Haven't used my Romera Rustic Chubby for a while now and the same can be said for the Wickhams 1912 Citrus Musk. Both performed superbly, the knot on the Romera is brilliant and the Wickhams, well it's Wickhams, I don't really need to say any more.

The razor I was using is the Friodur Inox. I'd be warned by a couple of guys on the pass around that the Friodur feels a little rough and wants to have a nibble at you. Well I have to completely agree with the assessment. I had a similar few days growth to get through,as I had when I used the Krahn, whilst the Krahn was smooth, the Friodur just wasn't. I didn't nick myself, or cause any weepers, but after the first pass all over my face, I just didn't fancy continuing, I wasn't particularly enjoying it and I didn't want to cut myself. As such, I grabbed the Tradere, with an Astra on its fourth use, to complete the first pass on my neck, re-lathered and completed a second pass.

I finished smooth, without irritation and any nicks or weepers. The Tradere I find, like most OCs excels with a few days growth. When I used it with only a couple of days growth it left me irritated on my neck, this time around I don't have that issue.

An OK shave all around then, but I've had much better!

I'd say no nicks or weepers with a nibbly straight is a result! Don't fret too hard about having to use another razor to polish up, you managed the majority of the shave without issue! I've got SR's which feel more 'bitey' than others and tend to shy away from them, but if you've got the time and concentration to do so they'll give you as good a shave as any! :) Good work!

P.s. Beautiful brush.

Merkur Futur set at No2
Astra blade #4
British Barber Association Shave Oil(thanks to Emma @ BBA)
Mason Pearson pure badger brush
Palmolive cream
Hot/cold water+alum rub
Boots Freshwood post shave balm

Three pass shave with no bloodshed

First use of the BBA shaving oil.
It added plenty of slickness, it performed much better than Somersets oil I have used in the past. It aided razor glide and boosted my confidence while shaving.
I will happily use again and I will buy some when it runs out.
It has quite a nice scent too!
As expected it left oily residue in the basin, but that's par for the course when using oils.

Also first time I've used Freshwood balm.
It feels much nicer than the Nivea and Real Shaving Co ones I've used before.
It smells nicer to boot !

Thanking you very much, your posts are always encouraging! I was chuffed to get around the face, under the nose and chin without an issue, but also not with much sense of fulfilment!

I wasn't really fretting, just found the shave not particularly enjoyable, which is a little frustrating. It does show, that like with DE/SE razors, straights very much have their own personalities and characteristics and finding the right one to suit is a fun (and potentially expensive) pastime :D

Pre: DR Harris Coconut soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Savile Row 3824 Silvertip Badger
Soap: Speick stick
Razor: Wilkinson Sword Sticky
Blade: Vintage Polsilver (2)
Post: Myrsol Emulsion
EdC: DR Harris Arlington

Same Donga, same Desert, same shave kit.
The Speick lather is very creamy and cushioning, would prefer a touch more residual slickness.
The vintage Polsilver blade is very smooth, with a gentle blade feel that belies its sharpness. The Savile Row brush is proving a good size for travel - big enough to hold enough lather for 3 passes if well loaded.
A terrific post-shave feel with the Emulsion topping it off nicely. I've put the Emulsion into an empty Shaver Heaven balm plastic bottle for travel suitability.

Lovely kit and picture. :)

Tue 2nd May
RazoRock Plissoft 22mm
P & B Spitfire
Supply Single Edge
Schick "Chick" ( 4 )
Alum Rub / Rinse off
Massimo Dutti A/S lotion

Quite pleased that I persevered with the Supply SE,and have now dialled in to the correct Shaving angle. Now find that I can get a smooth and acceptably close finish with it.Still think it would be better if it had a more aggressive plate to suit those with strong beard growth.

Brush: Vulfix 404 Grosvenor Mixed Bristle
Razor: Parker Variant w/ Polsilver SI (1)
Soap: Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements 11235
Post: Thayers Rose, Aloe Vera Gel, 4711 aftershave and cologne

A maiden voyage for the Variant, a nice shave but need to dial it in and get comfortable with it. I am writing a review for the review section and will update through the week. Good vibes so far. Used the 404 after recommending it in a thread in the brush section, a brush that is very good for the price and has one of the best handles you can have. Using the 11245, how can you not pair it with the inspiration. Lovely stuff
