Another DE

i started with the DE89 too and was pleased with it until i bought the merkur 43c. the difference in weight (150 grams vs 75) totally changed the shave for me. it just felt better in my hand and the whole experience was more satisfying.

since then i've got a fatip piccolo and a merkur slant and both of them are my preferred razors now - so much so that i don't even consider using the DE89. i find it far too mild.

would recommend trying a slant or an open comb if you want a more aggressive shave.
 
An open comb is next on the list of things to try... following that perhaps a slant.

I do seem to get on well with a sharp "aggressive" blade and a mild razor. Or at least I have so far... I've also changed too much too soon, so I need to draw a line and learn all I can from what I'm using. At that point I can then start playing around with open comb and slant heads!

The JEC handle should be the last change for a while.
