I've just signed up to review a badger hair shaving brush by Benny's of London. It retails for £17.95 on Amazon. There are currently 59 reviews of this brush, all give it 5 stars. All of the reviews have been written by people who were given a free brush to review.

Is there anyone who knows anything about these guys who hasn't been given a free brush? They seem to be on the up-and-up; it's just strange that they're giving out a boat-load of free brushes.

I just looked it up; that looks like a real piece of crap.....pure badger, small knot diameter by the look of it and a loft a foot tall, (slight exaggeration) certainly the ingredients for a great brush!! Little wonder they are giving them away, you surely couldn't sell them to anybody who knows just the bare basics of what makes a shaving brush.

Check out their web site here:- http://www.bennysoflondon.com/ it won't take very long for despite their claim of being 'The leading specialists in gentlemans necessities', they only stock two items this brush and some shaving soap called Benny's Face Melter (well you have got to laugh)

How were you able to sign up to review one Steve?

Both Amazon and their website have sale options but not any review sign-up options that I can see.

It just gets better and better, this is a quote from their site relating to their shaving Cream.

'Regardless if you have been wet shaving since birth or just starting this traditional grooming lifestyle, we can guarantee you will continue your morning regime using Benny's of London products.'

Amazing how many people have been wet shaving since birth, I bet that there are lots of them on this forum:D

Regards
Dick.

Maybe upload_2016-3-30_21-4-10.png from Kings Oak would be a more appropriate brand name then :D

They put a blub on face book on the uk wet shaving society page requesting reviewers and offering a 100% discount voucher and a link to amazon. I thought the same as you guys -- metal handle (no thanks), a loft that looks about 30cm high, and pure badger. If they're giving these things away, and every review has been from someone given a free brush, they can't be any good. I've decided not to take a brush or review it.

It's all about the BBS.

Thanks Steve. :)

I'm happy to review a brush and have sent the guy an email. If it's a poorly made brush I'll say so and will PIF it on accordingly.

If, of course, it does turn out to be the 'best shave brush of your life', I'll be the first to shout it from the rooftops. :)

I can't work out from the pictures if the handle is definitely metal or painted plastic.

It'll be interesting to see how it pans out. :)

The other reviewers all say the handle's metal, and without any stand to store it on. The loft is so high that I don't think it would hang from any brush stand I have.

Ah, I see. I hadn't read the reviews and looking at them now, I see what you mean.

I only ever bowl lather so that will help. It sounds like it's going to be a pretty floppy brush and it will be interesting to compare it to the floppy mop of a knot that my Mason Pearson brush has. :)
