Welcome! IMO, you can make good lather with almost any brush - the advantages of a quality brush are ease and speed of making good lather (it's harder with a cheap, low-quality brush), and, as has already been mentioned, how the brush feels on your face.

This was what I was thinking, as I couldn't justify buying an expensive brush but have heard good things about Turkish no:6 horse hair brush from bestshave.net
