New watch

Maybe that HMT will be your pension pot in future as it seems HMT are no longer trading. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-29548353

OK, maybe that's a bit optomistic.

Not being up with these things I'd not heard of them....but have had my eyes opened to see some fellas here spending two or three grand on a watch. Don't know why I'm surprised, people spend all sorts of dosh on their interests and hobbies.

You won't believe it......but some bods collect shaving brushes and razors !! Some have a hundred and fifty brushes.... !

I have another old manual winder,I found at Mrs DT's grand dad's place when we were clearing it out,I think it is called a Pijot,or something like that!.It still works, and keeps good time, even though it must be 50-60 years old.
I was going to go for a vintage Seiko 5 automatic, but I like the look of the HMT more!.
I think I will get a new Seiko 5 after Christmas,from Creation,for £40....:D

And some of them spend all their Christmas, and food money on those old razors too!......
And then have to sell off some of their other old razors to make sure the wife 'n' children get to eat,and get their Christmas prezzies too!....Scandalous!........;)

I'd go for something hand-winding, to make a change from the Omega's automatic movement.

So you want something stylish and simple and classic, that's also waterproof and fairly tough but sufficiently different to the Omega?

I'd go for a Time Factors Smiths Vintage Cushion Case- PRS-36, halfway down the page here: http://www.timefactors.com/smiths.htm

Or a Stowa or (my personal choice) a Nomos.

That's a very nice watch Ollie I can see myself as a future owner, strange coincidence I remember that very Bike and it's owner with a matching sidecar a Vincent 1000 Black shadow I past it many times while walking to school.

I was looking for a daily driver and was tempted by the PRS-36, but in the end I went with the Smiths PRS-25 "Everest". Amazing bang-for-your-buck at 245. Eddie at Time factors is a great guy to deal with and I was very impressed with the watch when it arrived.

Rolex Explorer (not Explorer II) is a very good equivalent to the Aqua Terra.

Not gaudy like some Rolex watches, and designed to be worn doing stuff rather than for 'best', an everyday watch.
I agree - Rolex built their reputation building bullet-proof watches for gentlemen but now they make bling for cretins.
You might look at Jaeger-LeCoultre and Blancpain - Rolex quality and service without the vulgarity.

Well if anyone wants to throw a gold Oyster date with black face at me - I'm happy to be classed as a cretin. However don't ever think you will spot me in a brown trilby - I'm not that much of a jerk.

That's a great looking watch. If I was in the market for a new watch I would be very tempted!
