S.O.T.D Saturday 29th June to Friday 5th July 2013

Prep: Village Barber Oil
Cream: Dr Harris - Windsor
Razor: Weber DLC/UFO U2
Brush: NF Tubby 1
Post: Village Barber Balm mixed with 444

Lovely lovely morning shave, just a shame I have to go suit shopping. BBS results.

Santa Maria Novella Pre
Jabonman Vetyver Soap
Semogue 2012 OC Badger/Boar
Duble Duck Goldedge
Alum/WH
SMN Balm

I've never quite gotton the best from this razor so I took it back to an 8k hone and followed with a couple of others and a Zulu Grey stone - much, much better. It's just a pity that the focus was not as good as the shave.

Evening, gents.

Any hints on how to use a very mild razor? I'd thought the Perma-Sharp would compensate, but it wasn't really enough. Still a good result, though.

Seems like a Feather blade's called for. Those are just a bit sharper than what you used. Maybe if it's still not right, don't be afraid to bear down a little bit.

Hope that does the trick.

If you want to try a Feather SE you will need to take the spine off a Gem and use it on the Feather - well worth a try although the life is very limited.

A search through the SE section will find Dick's description for easily removing the spine.

Evening, everyone.

Sunday:

Prep: Claus Porto's Lime-oil face soap
Razor: Weishi
Blade: Perma-Sharp Super (2)
Brush: Ecotools Kabuki
Shave soap: Kell's Hemp and Aloe unscented stick
A/S: Pashana Bay Rum
Cologne: Kouros

Well, the shave was visually acceptable with no irritation at all and, after my skin dried off, the remaining stubble shrank back to a mild fuzz which wasn't too bad. I'll try Dodgy's advice about more pressure, though it'll feel odd since it goes against everything I've learnt about wetshaving. There was a thread on Badger and Blade about the Weishi where some contributors wrote that a good, smooth shave was possible once you found the rather small sweet spot. The search continues.

Sunday 30th June

Prep: Hot shower, face scrub.
Brush: Omega 10065.
Cream: TOBS Rose- face lathered.
Razor: Old type copy.
Blade: Sputnik (3).
Post: Witch hazel, Steve's Barbershop Bay Rum, RSC post shave balm.

I was really surprised how little cream I needed to make such a brilliant lather. Barely any on the tips at all, and I had plenty for my 2 pass shave, maybe even enough left for another 2. The scent seems to last longer through the shave when I face lather with it too, and I love the rose. The brush feels incredible too, my oldest brush and still my favourite. I definitely prefer the boar to my other brushes. YMMV of course. Great shave, set me up for a long day this morning. Now the weekend is over, they always go too fast!
