I present you the new Semogue Limited Edition 2011 shaving brushes.
This time, Semogue has provided an array of shaving brushes for both boar and badger lovers. This LE lets customers choose between boar or badger hair and the size of the knot.
The boar knot is made of Special Grade boar, only used once back in the LE 2009. It has the same hair, with one dyed band. It's labeled Finest Bristle and has proven to be the top bristle available everywhere since 2009 and now it's back.
The badger knot is made of Finest Badger hair, a two banded hair from European badger (Meles Meles). This special kind of hair has been chosen because of its soft tips and strong backbone to load and lather any kind of soap or cream.
The handle of these brushes is also something unique. It was specially designed for this special occasion. Its vintage shape has been based on the first Semogue brush handles, made over 50 years ago. Its ergonomically enhanced shape provided comfortable grip and control of the brush. The material is also new, it's never been used in any other handle. It's a very strong and tough, marble-like black resin with some faint veins that give a classy and vintage look. As always, the base of the handle will have the Semogue LE signature - the brush number, the Semogue logo and the year of production 2011. On the bottom side of the handle, it will also be engraved the kind of knot it is - Finest Bristle or Finest Badger, and the size of it - size 1 or 2. Each of these 4 models will be numbered from 1 to 100.
With this new brushes, Semogue also presents you the new Semogue logo. The old Excelsior logo will now be deprecated.

Loft sizes:

48/50mm or 52/53mm in the 2-band Finest Badger models;
50 and 55mm in the Premium boar (Finest Bristle) models.

I'm already inlove!

One of each, please

The knots look brilliant.

I'd change a few things, I'd stick with the old logo. That new one looks crap.

Also I hope the writing at the bottom of the brush is gone on the actual brushes for sale.

Otherways, quite nice!

I agree with you Dipesh, I much prefer the old logo.

Nice to see that "Special Grade" boar knot back again - the 2009LE was something out of the ordinary.

What was so good about the 2009 LE hair Andy?

It took a while to run in, but the 2009 developed very soft tips and a lot more volume. A bit like the bloom you see on the finer grades of badger. What I think is going on is to do with the way the hair splits. The bristles are somewhat finer in the first place than what you find in, say, an inexpensive Omega, and it looks like most of them split three ways or more. (I haven't gone over it extensively with a magnifying glass you understand ... something tells me that would be a bit mental).

Anyway, what you get is a soft dense knot with a tall loft but plenty of springy backbone which really attacks hard soaps but not your face. Being boar there's very little tendency to hog the lather making it less than ideal for face lathering, but in a bowl it does at least as well as any badger brush of mine. It's a bit of a curiosity, but a very successful brush I think.

I will be getting the boar if this hair is meant to be better than my 830, then it's an awesome brush.

In fact I'd put my 830 just behind my duke 3. The only reason it's a tad behind is because the duke costs a lot more than the 830 and it makes me feel better. Lol!

A Great bit of marketing. These will sell out very quickly as there is alot of interest on the other forums already.

The 2009 LE bristle is a notch higher than other boar bristle IMO, these are the only other brushes with that bristle...

Vintagescent had them online right now! Pricing from euro €54,90 for the smallest boar, the biggest badger costs €99.90. Hmmm

DONE!!

No badger for me, thought it through. Just got a beejay custom and a Wee Scot. But I did splash the cash on the larger boar brush. I love my boars... Be quick people, they won't last.
