A very good shave indeed. Signature soaps are excellent, as are Simpson brushes, Edwin Jagger razors and Feather blades. The Village Barber balm is also rather good too.

Friday 2 August

I was intrigued by this razor which came up on the Bay. On impulse I thought it’s cheap, why not, I like a challenge.
So I give you the oddest single edge shavette I have seen,

View attachment 123417

It can’t take a whole de blade or an injector which is too thick but a half blade can be fitted after a bit of a fiddle. The tight clamping of the two halves by the handle grips the blade stopping any movement.
After a good lather I set to work and was amazed at how good it is. I’m no expert with shavettes and more time and patience is required by me when using them than a normal de razor. However, time I didn’t have so had to finish the under chin area with a de razor. A bbs finish is easily achievable with this odd piece.
If anyone has any ideas about its origin please tell.
Enjoy the day fellas!

So up today was the Ever-keen stropper reworked to take an Injector blade.
See here - Ever-keen Rework
So, As usual a lovely slick cushioning lather from the vintage Cussons and Culmak Jnr. Plenty of it too.
This "razor" is quite small, however, i did managed to sit it comfortably in my gorilla mits, thumb and forefinger an the top of the knurling and the bottom of the handle sitting on my Pinky, the two remaining fingers resting on the barrel, it felt comfortable enough.
I lathered up and away i went, the angle was very easy to find, i was quite surprised how comfortable it felt, starting with a shallow angle opening up until i was happy with how it was cutting, and boy was it cutting. I completed a full WTG pass without issue and the rinse off felt really good, some roughness on the neck and throat and a bit on the cheeks which i would usually get on the second pass.

Sorry no pictures...
Soap: Bignoli antica ricetta
Razor: Hawk (A)
Blade: Kai Captain mild
Brush: Semogue hereditas (boar)
Post: witch hazel/Proraso aftershave balm/Floid

Wanted to try the Bignoli (which is tallow rich) with the boar brush, which I typically found not the best with tallow soaps, but it lathered surprisingly well. Great soap, pity that the scent is 90% "greasy" and 10% citrus.

Noble Otter ‘Monoi de Tahiti’
Cadman-AP Shave Co 24mm G5A
ATT M1 Crown knurled handle
Personna Lab Blue #1
NO ‘Monoi de Tahiti’ AS

Slow easy shave with lukewarm water, two passes to produce a BBS result with a tiny nick on upper lip the only mar, finished with the matching splash which feels great on the face and smells of the tropical flower.

That’s great info Tony and Toby cheers. I’ll give the injector mod a try but I found that the head clamped the half blade really well. Also, this way it does allow you to set it depending how much blade edge you want on show. I started to day with a fine edge which was perfect. Alan

A splendid, close, two pass shave with the Claymore Evolution. This razor reminds me of the Rockwell 6S, in as much as its looks would best be described as functional, but, the shave from both is always reliable and safe. Good stuff.

Razor - Timor
Blade - Tiger
Brush - Simpson Captain
Lather - Phoenix and Beau Achilles Last Stand

Decided to try out the Tiger blade in the Timor. The Timor has been on the naughty step as I’ve found it a bit mild now. But I went with my instinct and tried a three pass shave from the off, rather than a two pass WTG/ATG followed by scrawping my way out of trouble. The result was a lovely near BBS with no touch-ups required. As good as a two pass from my Rockwell (still my number one). So the Timor won’t be on BST any time soon.

The lather from the Achilles Last Stand was as good as any, and had a lovely subtle pong. I could happily buy a large tub of this… but still got loads more to try out.

Very happy… and still got a bacon butty and a couple of bottles of Stella to get through tonight.

Happy weekend, everyone.

Soap: HoM - Beloved
Razor: Henckels - Friodur 17
Post: HoM - Beloved AS, Balm & EDP

Pics are likely to get boring very quickly with the same gear this month, we'll see how long I keep it up.

The brush has surprised me, it isn't as harsh as I thought it would be being untreated. But it is eating the soap, not as bad as yesterday (didn't soak it for as long), but it's got a good way to go.

Another smooth run with the 17, this isn't my edge, I'd had this done previously by JJShaves, but it's been set well. Irritation free, smooth finish.

Hope everyone has a grand day.

Cheers

Marc
