Does anyone have BT TV?

I'm old enough to remember when there were only 4 channels. I remember Channel 4 coming in around 1982, and that it was a fairly big deal back then. I also remember Channel 5 being introduced in around 1996/1997. Now, there are literally hundreds more channels, but that also means that there's a lot more crap to choose from as well. More channels = more rubbish, in my opinion anyway. At least we had better quality programmes back when we only had those 4 channels...

There was still lots of awful programmes on those channels! I remember when Big Brother first came out, we have it to thank for things like Love Island and so on...

Very true. I pretty much stopped watching telly regularly about the time Dirty Den got killed in Easties. Every programme seemed to be either full of people being horrible to each other, or cooking, or property. Voyeuristic, corrosive or just formulaic. Nowadays I look for cool stuff on Netflix to watch on the ipad. I thought Cilla's Blind Date was bad enough, but here's our Graham taking off his clothes to stand naked in front of the camera for the same show with less decency!

Well, that came as a surprise!

My BT TV box arrived and I set it up ... no aerial, remember, so when it came to the channels setup the choice was aerial or broadband and I picked broadband. Expecting pretty much nothing, maybe AMC to be the only thing appearing after setup ... I was surprised to find a whole stack of Freeview channels. Via broadband?

Apparently, BT mux a stack of channels just because they can ... and if you have one of the new Pro boxes, you can get a selection of the following depending upon region and HD option for your region:

I'm envious, the regional channels are useful for the local optouts.

Gah! Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory!

Not subtitles on NOW if you watch it on the BT TV box. Netflix? Yes. Prime? Yes. NOW on, like any other device? Yes. BT TV? Nah!

Given most of the programming on NOW is American and they tend to mumble, subtitles are a must. Oh, well ... back to the Fire Stick.
