Advice on soaps please

I'd just like to thank everyone for the good work on this thread, and to single out Vinny and PC in particular. You both deserve a gold TSR badge for your outstanding contributions.

Now then. Some years ago - never mind how long precisely - I used to knock about with a lad called Bumble. He used soap on his hair, here's the method: work soap into the hair until really thick and sticky; shape artistically then hang upside down over the landing for half an hour while it dries. Go out, and hope it doesn't rain. The photo isn't of him but the effect is the same.

Do not see why you would have a problem, you can use normal soap on hair no problem. I use solid shampoo out of choice as it irritates me the least.

But as for causing damage I don't see why.

What are these solid shampoos that you speak of? And where do you get them?

They're usually just normal soaps with a high coconut fatty acid salts content. As with any soap, they will leave soap scum residue in your hair, matting it, so you'll need to rinse that out with vinegar an conditioner regularly; this is the true difference between soap and shampoo. There actually is more similarity between shampoo and washing up liquid tha between shampoo and soap...

Thanks for the helpful info henk,I think I won't bother with it and just use ordinary shampoo

Sugar & water was the preferred concoction for ladies' beehive hairstyle & guys' D.A. styles in my younger days at the Barrowland & the Majestic ballrooms.

John, is there something you wan't to get off your chest, we are all friends here, we won't judge you.............well here goes:

Sorry John, think i have had one too many whiskies this evening

Now there's a thought. A D.A. in the style of Kenny Ball c. 1963 is a hairstyle to aspire to. I wonder whether my wife would be prepared to be seen with me though.

As regards Bible John, nah, don't think so. In fact I've a suspicion that JohnnyO isn't all he seems at all. His 50s and 60s hip credentials are too good to be true, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if he turned out to be a 23 year old with a wicked record collection. Either that or he's this guy:

as said, lush do them but quite expensive.

I use a company called Soap and Smellies, £2 for a 100g slice, compared to £6 for 55g slice at lush.
I have a bad problem with itchy head and these stop this.
