Buying a used Gaggia Classic

I can at last drink coffee again without any unwanted side effects, and with the effects of this forum I am looking to buy a Gaggia classic.

I can't justify the cost of a new one so am thinking about a used one, maybe even a reconditioned one.

Does anyone have any hints or tips about what to watch out for when buying one. Are they quite easy to fix and get the parts for if they do go wrong, it looks like parts are readily available.

Any advice welcome. I drink black Americano or Espresso so don't need to worry about the milk thing.

Thanks

Thanks, watching that one, I will be trying out this ebay sniping thing :)

My sniping thing didn't work, I must have set it up wrong. Damn, I would have paid more than that as it seems basically new.

Just watch the location if you bid on an ebay 2nd hand one - if it's been in a hard water area and not fed nicely or been descaled they can be pretty blocked up. Anything from north of the border will be fine :)

Only £180 brand spanking from this chap that is very reasonable for this machine if you can stretch to it?

If you don't need the shiny outside remember the Baby has the same internals/solenoid etc

£129.99 for a refurb on amazon

Amazon outlet have good deals, customer returns which they can't then sell as new.

I went for Like New, SWMBO decided that was best. New they are 240.00 In MACRO including VAT.

SWMBO just asked a stupid question, but I couldn't answer it.

Do we need to buy different coffee, or do we use the same as we we use in the coffee filter thing we have now.

I assume we use the same, but not really sure.

Any recommendations would be welcome, we like strong coffee, but not too bitter.

Good choice, the used like new stuff I have in the past is brand new, just someone changing their mind and returning it.

I use illy and lavazza, which you can use in the cafetiere, its all just ground coffee.

I'm sure the more experienced will be along with some recommendations on the coffee.

I too bought the same machine after spending time on TSR

We tend to use whatever they sell in the supermarkets, usually going for Kenyan or Ethiopian for some reason.

So for now I can just stick with the same coffee and start experimenting.

Just waiting for postie now.
