Tks for this guys big help here.

RE: Coffee machine

i use lavazza beans... tesco had them for about £3.60.. tastes gorgeous, lovely and smooth. I'd suggest the ground version would be a good bet.

RE: Coffee machine

I use a bean to cup (Delonghi Magnifica).

I like the flexibility of using a variety of beans without the ball ache of grinding :)

I buy my beans from
http://www.londoncoffeeroasters.co.uk/

Expresso Blend is the nicest.

RE: Coffee machine

I used to use and like Lavazza black (pre ground) before I got my Rancilio machine, but I tihnk you would get nicer shots from your Classic if you bought pre grounded at some special shop ...

The above link ^^ looks nice...

RE: Coffee machine

I agree with you guys, getting pre ground from a dedicated roaster is going to be better but Slick just wants to use his machine asap.

RE: Coffee machine

Dear coffee heads.
You are a fab bunch.
I bought lavazza black bag Pre ground labelled espresso.
Filled machine. Washed rinsed through etc.
And did my first cup.
No crema.
Left machine. Heaty Heaty warm warm.
Packed head tight.
Bingo. Not great but already better than shop.
Did one for the electrician.
Bingo.
First time round I didn't have the hNdle fully locked.
You know the double spout thing. Is that supposed to undo?
Mine does not. In the exploded diagram it looks like it might be threaded.
So my double shot is raking about 15 seconds. So still not there but I feel like
I just de shaved for the first time and realised I didn't cut myself.
I like fiddling with kit so this suits me fine. After seeing the rancillo in operation Im not are ican so the much fiddling though!
This seems to me to a fairly straightforwad machine.
But !!!!!
I would love your top hints for getting it right.
Thanks for your support.
Hey tomorrow I can shave and have great coffee.
Cheers
Limbo.

And I can have antdad bread too!!!

Top tip? Keep a are jar of this in the cupboard in case it all goes dreadfully wrong.

It's going to take a while to get used to the machine, 15 second extraction is a bit rapid, 20 - 30 extraction is about right but depends on grind and tamp pressure which will eventually become second nature.

Hey Slimbo try this place, tell them what you want out of your coffee (taste, strength, richness etc) and they will guide you to the right one. I have my own blend that I keep to. The guys really know their stuff and they mail order. For me supermarket stuff just doesn't cut it at all......and if you are spending out on a good machine why cut costs on the main thing i.e. the coffee........:dodgy::dodgy:

Tried to find cheap grinder but have come to the conclusion I'm going to have to get something like a gaggia MDF.
I think I can source one for about 127 gbp.
So then I looked at e bay. And tuen thought I can see me getting it serviced!
Plus they are actually not that cheap.
The hunt continues.
Ta for input guys.
Tim

buy a 2nd hand quality grinder on ebay as a good one despite previous usage history are pretty much bombproof

It's like Tony wrote: 20-30 secs extraction is good and think mouse tail for thickness of the coffee streaming out. Try to get a double (do you have a messur glas or cup?) for 20-25 secs, then the crema should follow. It could be hard with the pre grounded coffee though (if you don't buy it from a special coffee- shop or web site). Good tips re grinder above ^^. I've got a Maccap 4 grinder and it's very good (Mazzer Mini is a good one too). I think a Rocky (Rancilio) grinder is good too and cheaper, but more noisey.
