Prep: Boots botanics face scrub
Shaving brush: Edwin Jagger Chatsworth ebony synthetic bristle
Shaving soap: Crabtree & Evelyn sandalwood
Blade: Wilkinson Sword Classic
Razor: Edwin Jagger Chatsworth barley chrome with Merkur top cap
Post: Boots freshwood ASB

I've been trying diagonal to the grain passes, and it takes a bit of time, but gives smooth close shaves.

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

1964 rebranded Macys silvertip flopmeister
'Webly'/Wilkinson Sword Stainless Steel (very early version)
J. Peterman 1903 SC
Neutrogena oil-free moisture sensitive skin
Creed 'Aventus' EdT

Wanted to try this NOS blade......it's an older one I had never seen before. Unusual markings on the thing, with Super Sword Edge on one side and STAINLESS on the other. Heh, the package price is 5 blades for 63 cents instead of the normal 79 cents. Loaded it in the Webly and went to shaving.

Well by now I can tell right away about a blade from the first few WTG strokes (down my neck). This blade though was interesting. The first couple strokes were certainly comfortable enough, but something felt odd. Having used the Mongoose and Cobra recently helped make me see this blade was behaving more like a SE than a DE type usually does. Weird, but not unpleasant at all.

So I think this blade is thicker than normal, plus maybe the grind might be a little different but not sure. It definitely is stiffer than the typical DE blade which I actually like a lot!

Too bad I only found 2 packs of these.....I love em! Probably as smooth and comfortable a blade as I've tried, plus these are on the sharp side. Gives me something to look for at least

BBS results,

Martin

Gillette Silver Blue [1]

Very odd angle for the old type, much shallower than I'm used to. But a nice shave once I'd found it.

Soap: CRSW Sandalwood
Brush: Simpson Chubby 2 2-band
Razor: Mongoose
Blade: Feather Super (1)
Post: Myrsol Antesol and then some Emulsion.

Well, that was not a relaxing shave. With this blade the razor is more aggressive than the last time I used a R41. I was a bit concerned that I'd over done it so used the Antesol and then the Emulsion but I got away with it. This is the closest shave I can remember but two days in a row might be a bit much, think I'll swap out for a Kai Mild tomorrow...

Shave 25 January 2015

The Durham Duplex with the Personna Pathology Blade 72-0200 performed slightly less well today. Still a 2 1/2 pass DFS but the blade tended to tug a bit at times. It is time to move on to another razor for the work week.
