Greetings
Tuesday 29th March 2016
Prep: Shower
Razor: Valet Autostrop Early Model A 1904 1907 Pat.
Blade: Valet Early type (no cut outs)
Brush: Semogue OC 2 Band
Soap: La Toja Stick Grated
Aftershave: Astral Cream (soft)
EDT: Miller Harris La Fumee
I have owned several of these original model Valet blades for some years but had never tried them because of my complete lack of success stropping the later blued Valet blades with the cut outs. These blades have on them a layer of really thick grease and are then wrapped in a type of greaseproof paper. I gave the blades 50 laps on a valet strop and 50 on a Neil Miller replacement strop, the resulting shave was quite 'tuggy', not unbearable but not terribly pleasant. I ended up with a close shave but my face is a little tender.
I used these blades purely out of curiosity, it is simplicity itself to modify a modern GEM blade and get a really great shave out of this old razor.
Regards
Dick.
