Wallets

OK, after this thread got me thinking I did some research and narrowed down to these 3 :

http://capsulewallets.com/

http://bellroy.com/wallets/card-sleeve-wallet

http://www.myfireti.com/

The plus on the 3rd is that it is located in Scottland (so no chance of duty taxes etc - and is more fancy / cool looking), but will it be as practical as the first 2 ??

Since I can not buy all three to test them, has anyone tried any of these ?

I know Frenchblade tried the 3rd, so any input / experience / review from anyone would be more than appreciated !

Thank you ! :)

I like the belroy one, the other looks less practical...
Fireti is really cool, but there is still a bit of backlog on the kickstarter ones.
(I was lucky, and received one of the first ones)

These are the comments I have posted on their KS page over the space of a few months:

After a few days use, just a quick impression of the wallet:
1.) RE: Scratching, to be honest, yes they scratch a bit, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be. If you want to avoid scratching alltogether use something like notes/glue/felt, but they're cards, not jewelery.. I don't think cards will actually scratch to a point of not being useable anymore.
2.) Scratching is worse the first few days, once the o-rings loosen up a bit, all is fine. (I suggest you pack the wallet with 10-11 cards for the first few days), the plates probably wear a bit of the rough edges off too over time(?)
3.) Removing cards, cash etc takes a bit of getting used to, putting cash back in too, after a few days you master it and it's very easy. (this is also partly due to the o-rings being tight in the beginning)
Anyways, it's a great wallet, very pleased with it.

So, a quick review after 5 weeks of use, the o-rings loosen up nicely, the cards slide in and out almost effortlessly, no real wear/scratching on the cards, euro bills get folded in 1/3 their size and fit nicely now.
I did snap one o-ring in the first week or so, I did overload it a bit to stretch it out, so the fault was all mine! The wallet holds together alright with 3 rings for a short period.
The outer side (anodized TI) has a few scratches, but that's because it lives in my pocket with change, keys and other bits and pieces, so no real surprise.
The beer opener is real handy!! I was a bit skeptical about its usefulness, but honestly, it's almost summer, so beers and barbecues are here!
The RFID blocking works for me (mifare spec card), to use my bus card it's on the top of the stack of cards, I can just slide them out a bit, check the card, and slide the lot back in, no need to take the card out. I will have a proper RFID reader soon, so I could do some more extensive tests If people are interested.
Not sure what else to say, but if anyone has any questions about its day to day use, go ahead.

So, about the wallet, it does get way better after use, mine has now been in use for almost 2.5 months, and it feels super smooth now, the o-rings are right now, but it took a while.
I find it becomes second nature to use, I've a few cards and my driving licence (folded in half), and money in it, and it's really good. I have not noticed excessive wear on the cards as some were worried about, but then again, my cards were already scratched. (and I don't really care!)
The bottle opener is great, very handy to have, since you always have it on you. (I used to open bottles with a bic lighter, but have since stopped smoking!)
Here's some pics for those waiting: http://imgur.com/a/7PPZ6
(I have since replaced 3 of the cards with an iPhone app)

Ok, and now for the other news, I backed another KS campaign for a different wallet
(I'm a KS/Wallet junkie): http://www.crabbygear.com/

Looks like it's a nice piece of kit, I ordered 2.. (go figure, was not that expensive)
So if that's as good as I hope, you can either buy the Omega off me, or one of the Crabbys. (I got one red and one black, probably want to keep the red one)

Cheers,

Max

Thanks for the reply Max,

Did look at the crabby one and even contacted the designer, was told that it will prbably take too long for shipping since I missed the funding and that for looking to the 3 alternatives I mentioned.

Might take you up on this offer, will see, thanks !

That's the problem with very successful kickstarter campaigns, the Omega/Fireti got 20x the expected goal.. the Crabby 30x.. which makes me think I backed the right ones ;) (I backed both in their first week)
The Crabbys are supposed to ship (to KS backers) within 10-15 days now, the last update was quite positive!

I also backed this, which went through the roof ;) 55x expected goal.

I'm happy with my bellroy, there are a number of online retailers in the UK that do them, keep an eye out for discount codes or cashback.

Ordered Saturday, arrived today from Amazon:

Bellroy

to replace an aging, bulky trifold thing with velcro closure and a coin pocket.

Basically got fed up with the bulk and weight of the old one, then the coin pocket zip broke, the velcro no longer velcro'd shut and you enabling motherfreakers opened my eyes to new possibilities. :icon_razz:

Lovely soft leather, nice construction, super slim yet holds everything I actually need to carry.

I too was fed up of over sized wallets so when i made my Midori style notebook i made myself a wallet:icon_razz:

My first attempt and im quite pleased,

secured by elastic and a small piece of leather, you could use a bauble or such.
:dodgy:

more..

:dodgy:

Like Simon I use a Midori style notebook which takes a diary, a notebook (field notes size) an insert for cards and paper money and loose notepaper.

[attachment=9556] [attachment=9557]
Its now well used and well worn but leather just gets better as it ages.
I also use it as my golf scorecard holder.
I tend to leave loose change in the coin holder in the car although carrying a few pound coins in my pocket isn't an issue for me.
I do find the notebook extremely useful though and don't carry a wallet any more.
regards, beejay

Cheers BeeJay, enabled again, just ordered one, yours looked so nice.

I was gifted a black leather wallet by Grupo Freixenet (Cava producers) about 15 years ago when I was invited by them to Barcelona for a weekend along with a few other Majestic Wine colleagues.
It is still going strong despite being carried in my trouser pockets pretty much every day since. I will be gutted when it finally gives up the ghost - it's like an old friend now!

Ordered yesterday, delivered today via eBay for under £11.00. Very pleased with it too.

I bought a couple of those too,,great value for money and nice to give as gifts.
The Midori passport inserts and refills fit them as do the Scout notebooks 3 1/2"x5".
