Storage for straights?

What do you use to store your straights in?

Do you keep them in the boxes they come in or something else?

I watched a video on the Thiers Issard site (Invisible Edge) on a guy who was demonstrating his new 7 day set. He had them in a zip up case like a book sized pencil case which seemed a good idea.

Ones I use are in my razor display cabinet, the ones not shave ready are in a drawer in little ziplocks with silcia gel.

I find the display case pretty handy, it's in a dry place, safe from little hands, and nice to look at.

After deciding that the bathroom is too humid I have opted for a high-up place to keep my razor. Not ideal but it's out the way of little hands I suppose. I have kept its box but don't use it.

I have no kids, so finding a 'safe' place is no issue. I just keep mine on a shelf in the box room. It's nice and open and allows then to throughly dry.

I suspect that you're best applying the shaving brush storage rules to straight razors, but obviously they do need to be out of reach of little hands.

I got a 7 day cabinet (where most of my Sheffield blades are in), I got rolls (different kinds, but Neil made some that can keep more than most other rolls - very good looking leather rolls too :D), small boxes for induvidual blades and a couple of double boxes.

As for not shave ready blades, they´re all over the place , but our kids are older now and know that it´s a bad idea to play around with my razors. Hell, the oldest one is shaving now and then (he´s 14 and started a couple of months ago :D).

I don’t have any kids now, so storage isn’t a problem anymore. I keep mine in the bathroom on a razor and brush stand.

The second razor is at my girlfriends, in a toilet bag locked away in a cupboard.

My ex wife is looking after my other two blades, I don’t know where she keeps them, but she promises me that she keeps them near to hand.

I'm looking for a good box to keep mine in. Needs to have enough room for a little expansion :)

I'm toying with the idea of getting a humidor and using it in reverse (keeping the humidity out), by replacing the humidifier with one of those rechargeable silica gel canisters. The humidity seal should work just as well "back to front". The cedar lining should continue to absorb moisture, but hopefully will be dried by the silica gel rather than just releasing it back into the box.

However, I can't bring myself to pay even ebay prices for what is to me essentially just a wooden box.

Any other suggestions?

Plenty of items out there that will do the job! (just paint or varnish)

Nice spots. (You must have your eye on them yourself ;) ) The first has a finger-hole in, so won't be very good at keeping the moisture out. Both the first and the last are two small for a decent collection, sadly. But the middle one looks very promising, thanks!
