Acquisitions Mon 16th - Sun 22nd May incl.

I guess I have a little something on the way. I usually do..:)

A Simpson Polo 12 in 2 band Super
A Heljestrand MK 33 in Ivory scales
A Custom Damascus razor (DevinT)
A Robert Williams custom
And if I have any luck, a couple more razors for restoration.

You are a bit of a connoisseur of scent Vinny, may be a stupid question but out of interest can you narrow it down to what are your all time favourite(s)? (at least so far).

Think il have to have a go at the Histoires de Parfums - 1740 - Marquis de Sade, just to see how they carry a prune note between Leather and Patchouli.

Quick update to my earlier reply (page 5).

I mentioned Sables (Annick Goutal) in that post when talking about Nuit de Noel. Having tried 1740 again, it reminds me of . . . get this . . . Sables. I checked a few sources and it turns out they both contain Immortelle - whatever that is - reminds me of maple syrup / curry.

Now I have to buy some as I never got round to buying Sables before it was discontinued.

I really like those scents that make me go "woah, that's different" and there are a handful:

Creed - Cuir de Russie
Annick Goutal - Sables
Frederic Malle - Vetiver Extraordinaire
YSL - Kouros
Caron - Yatagan
Czech & Speake - #88
Knize - Knize Ten

Honourable mentions go to:

Dior - Fahrenheit
Chanel - Antaeus
Aramis - 900
Penhaligons - Blenheim Bouquet
Calvin Klein - Obsession (yeah, I know)

Very nice and distinct choices, all of them.

I have yet to try Knize Ten, not that I've tried all the rest Vinny mentions though, very curious about that one especially.

I have tried some of them and Fahrenheit is one of my favourites. Some of them I never heard of before now but will keep an eye out for them as I have been looking for some new scents to try.

Thanks for that.

A Bag Base washbag. All I need now is a good but inexpensive razor and my travel shaving set-up will be complete.........

....... Now for Global Domination!!!!

I bought a sample pack of colognes from Czech & Speake - have so far only tried the 88 but by crikey what a fragrance! I applied it sparingly yesterday about 0630 and was still getting wee whiffs of it at 2000 last night. Lovely fragrance, amazing longevity but not overpowering strong.

Can you suggest any sites for buying decants or samples? Quite fancy trying some of the scents you mentioned but the cost puts me off.

The site Vinnie listed http://www.ausliebezumduft.de/ has a sample service (down at the bottom of the page). Apart from that the usual places, for the CK and Dior stuff try the perfume halls of a dept store. Trumpers and T&H also do sample packs (I think Penns does a scent library in small bottles) but for any specific fragrance just ask around or email them and ask. Often I have had a positive response even if they don't do samples they can tell you who retails the product and if you are lucky they may be close to you and you can see if you get anywhere with them.

Scents can quickly empty your wallet so it is worth trying them if you can before purchase.

On a side note I picked up a nice black handled Super Speed via a family friend I was visiting, it is covered in soap crud but will clean it up and see what the year markings are and what condition the plating is in. I already have my birth year and quarter razor so this may be good for someone else.

Excellent - I had a wee browse and this:

http://www.ausliebezumduft.de/proben/

is the explanation of how their sample policy operates.

In a nutshell, a sample can be ordered on the same page as the full-size product. The minimum order size is 4 samples (16 euros), and P&P is 5 euros.
Alternatively, anyone ordering a full-size product can request up to three free samples by using the comments section when ordering. Subject to availability (see, I knew my German degree would come in handy some day :D )

Or you could click on the little union flag on the site and load the English version.

aye but where's the fun in that?

I have often thought they should offer half bottles (or that the Glaswegian in me coming out  ) this would allow you to get through more variety. now and again I want to buy something new then say to myself that I should finish up at least one bottle otherwise you end up with so many you never get round them. The sample is just a wee bit small, something like 30-50ml would be ideal. Something tells me it wouldn't be half the price though.

Yesterday I received

EJ DE87 Ivory handle razor
EJ Pure Badger brush

Crabtree & Evelyn Sienna soap
Crabtree & Evelyn Sienna ASB

Body shop Arber EDT

Lucky me!

A Milord type ranger tech gold colour.

It came pretty ropey so I have managed to unrope it.

May yet get it replated.....
