S.O.T.D. Saturday 20th to Friday 26th sept

This mornings shave :

Soap : Petal pusher fancies in Coconut
Brush : Omega 49 face lathered
Blade : Polsilver SI (3)
Razor : Bluebeards Revenge Scimitar
Post shave : Nivea sensitive balm

2 passes, WTG & XTG. This soap has a superb scent, very slick and hydrating. Initially I thought the shave was spot on but after applying the balm I noticed a few weepers on my neck and irritation on my jawline and top lip.
This is my first use of this soap and I don't think it would cause these issues so I can only put it down to the blade being past it's best. It felt sharp enough during the shave and the previous 2 were spot on with no irritation.

Next shave with this soap and a fresh blade (I'm thinking Lab Blue) to make 100% sure.

Prep: Hot shower
Pre: Proraso pre-shave - sensitive
Soap: Tabac
Bowl: Homemade brush warmer
Brush: MÜHLE Kosmo silvertip synthetic
Razor: 1912 Ever Cadet SE
Blade: Gem (1)
After: Tabac AS, Tabac ASB

After acquiring my Ever Ready 1912 SE I found that although it looks art deco and all that, I hated the feel of the handle; with all those hexagonal sides it just wasn't comfortable. So I set about attaching another handle. I tried using an M5 10mm bolt but found it impossible to pass through from the razor head side so I was looking to make up a grub screw when I found out that a standard electric light switch fixing screw (shown in photo) was a perfect fit and already had the "cut-here" indents to make the right length. Screwed in the grub from the handle side of the head and it stuck fast. Job done. Teamed up with my Cadet handle vastly improved the shave for me.

Result really comfortable BBS and a great looking razor to boot.

Have a Tabactasic weekend, folks.

So I took today off to make a long weekend with my girls (they're both out of school today). Had some extra time this morning so I had a nice leisurely shave (even though I didn't need to).
Pre: Village Barber oil
Soap: Acqua di Parma
Brush: Simpson's M6 TSN-LE, 22mm 2-band Manchurian
Razor 1: ERN 1934
Razor 2: Ikon OSS w/SE handle
Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock green (2)
Post: Thayer's witch hazel, followed by Myrsol Antesol & Village Barber balm

Wow. Very nice BBS result.

Friday xxvi September, 2014

Prep: Hot shower, Zirh Alpha Hydroxy Face Wash
Pre: Splash of cold water
Brush: Neep Dreadnought '67
Soap: MdC Fougère
Razor: Gillette M3 Slim Adjustable
Blade: Personna Med #2
Post: Alpa Fougère

Result: MdC sure is a fine soap. I know it's expensive, but I would hazard a guess that it represents pretty good value if one were minded sufficiently to work it out. Large jar, and very little required for a substantial lather.....Compared to say £10 for some creams that last a month maybe.

Anyway I'm 47 tomorrow.

All the best,

Jon

Mastro Livi Damasteel, 7/8 Full Hollow, Snake Point

My very first Mastro Livi razor and it is still love at first sight. I must admit I like Damasteel very much, not only for its beautiful patterns, but also for the sensation it gives in shaving. Keen and sharp, it always gives a very close shave. Not to mention, this razor is still sharp like the first day: so sar, I have never honed it or passed on chromium oxide paste and I bought this razor more than one year and a half ago. It has a lovely edge, smooth and gentle, yet very effective and giving a very comfortable and very close shave. Superb!
