Finest Badger brush made by myself
Gillette New Improved Big Fellow (1925)
Polsilver Super Iridium (1)
Cold rinse

RazoR'OC'k-tober (22 Oct)
Pre: RazoRock/HTGAM mentholated lime soap
Soap: Shannon's Soap "Woodlands"
Brush: Rubberset-400 replica with 24mm silvertip
Razor: Ikon OSS w/SE handle
Blade: NOS Gillette "Spoiler" SS (4)
Post: Thayer's witch hazel, followed by Fine "Fresh Vetiver"
A wonderful shave is a beautiful thing. The "Spoiler" blade is starting to lose the edge, but still managed a 3-pass BBS because the soap is so protective.

Ever Ready vs. Damaskeene SE Face-off
Prep: Hot shower
Pre: Proraso pre-shave - sensitive
Soap: Speick stick grated into tub
Bowl: Woodhead Large Pedestal
Brush: MÜHLE Kosmo silvertip synthetic
LHS Razor: 1912 Ever Ready SE + Cadet handle
RHS Razor: 1912 Gem Damaskeene SE
Blade: Gem (1) x2
After: Speick Active AS, Body Shop Arber ASB

Time to compare my newly acquired US Gem Damaskeene with my very similar English Ever Ready 1912 SE. I used the Gem on the right hand side of my face and the ER on the left side. Both loaded with a fresh Gem blade and I even switched blades on the third pass just to confirm there wasn't a difference between the blades. The ER had a bit of an advantage because it has a larger DE handle fitted.

Quite different feel from each razor. The ER felt more aggressive and gave more feedback but still smooth. The Gem felt mild and the razor only seemed to cut if exactly the right angle was used, a bit annoying really, but it did feel really safe as a wrong angle didn't bite.

Results were surprising. I expected the ER to have given a much closer shave but in fact there was almost no difference between the two sides, maybe a slightly closer shave from the ER but very difficult to distinguish. No irritation from either razor.

Looking at the razors close up the ER does have more blade exposure (due to the slightly narrower top plate) and hence the greater feedback feel and sound. The ER seems to have the blade edge slightly higher off the comb and so more aggressive and able to cut at a wider angle range.

Overall, so far, I prefer the ER as it's more fun to use and gives more feedback, but time will tell.

Shave on and on,

Proraso pre green
NSS Bamboo & Grape
Semogue 830
Gillette New Long Comb on Stainless handle
Gillette Silver Blue [1]
Nivea Moisturiser
Hugo Boss Orange

While since I used the NLC, and it was a pleasure very smooth shave, not the most comfortable, but job done nonetheless.

after the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

vintage rebranded butterscotch Simpsons best
'Webly'/ Gillette Super Stainless (NOS 1992 made in Argentina)
J Peterman 1903 SC
Barbershop Bay Rum AS
lots more of the aftershave splashed on like cologne

Second shave with this blade and another nice experience. Similar to the earlier 1960s-70s Super Stainless Spoilers, which ain't a bad thing. Smooth and although maybe not quite as sharp as the Iridium for example, it's still a very pleasant blade. Seems extremely forgiving and no buyers remorse with the NIB 200 blades I acquired.

BBS results,

Martin

Prep - Shower, Arko to wash beard
Razor - Slim Adjustable
Blade - Astra SP (#5)
Brush - Omega 20106
Soap - Arko with 2 drops Rosemary essential oil
After - Freezer flannel, Alum
Result - BBS

Prep: cold h2o
Brush: Kent Infinity
Soap: Erasmic bowl
Razor: 37c
Blade: Personna Platinum
AS: Hi-Karate

It's now conclusive, Hi-Karate shares a similar base note to the clubman, however it's smells nicer without that chemical note, it is more powerfully scented and last far longer, not an AS for wall flowers.
