Friday xxxi May, 2013

Prep: Shower, Savon de Provence Shea Butter
Pre: Cold Water Splash
Brush: Kent Infinity Silvertex Synthetic
Soap: Palmolive / La Toja frankensoap
Razor: Merkur 46C Travel in Open Comb mode
Blade: Astra Superior Stainless #2
Post: Alum, Thayer's Medicated WH, Zirh Post Shave Solution
ASL: Givenchy Gentleman

Result: I believe that this is the most luxurious soap I have, it is so rich, thick and creamy with great slip properties. I love using it. Second day with the Astra Stainless - I'm now of the opinion that the platinum suits me better. Still an excellent blade though. Great shave for a lovely sunny morning.

Good day to you all, gents.

Jon

Friday morning

Gillette face wash
Proraso pre
Body shop Macca root
New forest 1901 brush
Gillette slim
Personna lab blue (2)
Witch hazel gel
Trumpers coral skin food
Blue stratos after shave

First use of this razor and a reasonable shave - not sure about this blade and trying a new razor doesn't help me judge it - will try with different blade.

Friday:

Mitchell's Wool Fat
Semogue SOC Boar
Aristocrat Jr.
Gillette 7 o'clock SharpEdge
Witch Hazel
T&H Trafalgar AS

Great shave. I've thoroughly enjoyed using MWF all this week.

Friday

Travelling from tomorrow, so shaved on a Friday this week instead of the usual Thursday. Three days' growth came off in one nice clean swoop!!

Kent T4
Martin de Candre, wooden bowl
Filly 13 DT, black scales (man, this one is sharp!!)
Roger & Gallet L'Homme ASB
Creed Millesime Imperial

Herbs of Bulgaria Lavender shaving cream
Henk walnut silvertip
Progress on 1.5, 1 with MEM Super Silver Platinum
Givenchy Gentleman a/s

Very nice. The shaving cream is a good latherer with a decent amount of protection and a strong floral scent which is very pleasant. The MEM blades are very smooth and fairly sharp. Remind me of Shark Super Chromes but I'd need to use a few more in a few more razors to get a better impression.

I couldn't decide which brush or which soap to use so I decided to use two: half my face with one and half my face with another…

Prep: Shower + Castle Forbes pre.
Right side of face:
Brush: Simpsons Tulip 2
Cream: Trumpers Coconut Oil
Left side of face:
Brush: New Forest Tubby 1 (2 band)
Cream: Castle Forbes Lime
Razor: iKon open comb deluxe
Blade: Gillette Rubie #2
Post: D.R. Harris Pink A/S

What did I learn?
CF Lime and a hang-over shouldn't be mixed
Doing my face 50/50 is a right faff and I won't be doing it again.
The Tubby is probably the only brush I “need” – which means the Tulip is not really needed
The smell from splashing a spoonful of Pink After Shave onto my face is far stronger than sniffing in the shop. It smells a lot like Turkish Delight and it was making me gag – I hope (that's) because I was hung-over and was overly sensitive to the Rose scent and not because I am going to dislike it
Castle Forbes is a better shaving cream than the Trumpers (I knew that anyway)

All in all and very average shave, but I can only blame myself.

Last nights shave,
Pre: Jack Blacks beard lube.
Razor: Merkur Progress. (Loaned in)
Blade: Vintage Scottish Perma-Sharp. (1)
Brush: Simpsons Polo 8, Super.
Cream: GFT Rose.
Aftershave: Myrsol Fórmula C.

My first go with the Progress and I bravely (this means idiotically) started the Merkur at 5 but after the first nick it was dialled down somewhat. Another razor that may be getting added to the ever expanding collection!

I think the Polo super ate all my Trumpers, the picture was what was left after three passes and touch ups, I think the lather could've lasted me all week! The Polo is huge but is a superb brush, a recent aquisition from LtB.
All in all very decent three pass shave, despite the small hole at the left side of my jaw.

Scott.

Prep: Hot shower
Pre: Proraso pre-shave (sensitive)
Soap: MWF (soap of the week)
Brush: New Forest 2213
Bowl: Woodhead Pedestal
Razor: Cadet OC TP02-SS
Blade: Iridium Super (2)
After: Superdrug FF AS, Coral Skin Food

MWF Week Day 5

Last Fat day for me. It's been a very pleasant week and have not suffered from lanolin poisoning, so that's answered one question for me.
I've not had any issues with getting a good lather from this soap and I like the way it makes my skin feel, but you can have too much of a good thing.

Getting better using the Cadet, result BBS.

...First shave with the Progress. Why did no-one tell me about the Progress before? Ooops... sorry... you did!
Lovely weighty little beast and great balance. Tried it on setting #2 first and it worked well, but a bit mild in some places. I'll be experimenting with settings. Easier to adjust on the hoof than the Fatboy/Slim.
All in all... an excellent shave

.. so how does it compare with your Weber?
