Last shave before my holidays. Bloody French air traffic controllers! Soon time to test my travel shave kit.

Hassle free shave, last one on dry land for a while.
Result almost BBS.

Hot flannel
Proraso pre, green
New Forest Tubby 1, Cella
ATT Atlas R1, Rapira Swedish
Cold splash, alum block
Clinique post-shave healer

Gave the Atlas R1 a try out after getting to grips with the M1 yesterday. It's on the edge of aggression for me and not entirely irritation-free... but I've ended up as clean as a whistle with very little effort. After aluming and balming everything's fine and dandy.

Prep face wash L'Occitane sandalwood soap
Razor Ryujin Tamahagane Dragon God 13/16
Strop Kanayama cordovan #8000
Brush Morris & Forndran L7 in faux tortoiseshell
Cella creme da barba
Alum & Thayers rose and aloe toner

Tom Ford Black Orchid Eau de parfum

The Dragon God is a scary sharp beast there's not a whisker on the planet that doesn't run for cover at the mere mention of his name, praise be the Tamahagane Dragon God.

Thursday 13th June

sotd13613.jpg

Warm shower
Hot flannel
Speick cream scuttle lathered (soap of the week)
Simpson Emperor 1 super badger brush
Gillette 1928 New standard gold
Lord Platinum (2)
Cold rinse
Witch hazel
Speick aftershave

A fine shave, a later one than usual as I was out in the Cotswolds for the day. Picked up a tube of Trumper's Violet shaving cream from Armstrong's in Broadway. The lady also kindly gave me a sample of GFT cream.

Brian

Weber Polished
Personna Lab Blues (3)
Muhle Silvertip Fibre
Speick shaving cream
Proraso AS lotion
Diptyque Tam Dao

Only one shave left with Speick before it's finished. As long as it isn't discontinued - like I've this week read of another German product, Klar Kabinett - I'll wait to try many other sub-100ml tube creams before repurchasing. They're just so practical for travel. I currently have Barbon, a cheap Hungarian cream, on the go. I also have more £0.80-£2 creams in the sidelines: Nivea mild, Wilkinson Sword and Figaro.

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

Savile Row badger (huge knot)
'Webly'/Tungsten Personna 74 (NOS)
Surrey SS ( early tallow based version)
Neutrogena oil free moisture
Malizia 'Vetyver' EdT (gone in 10 minutes but I really like the scent).

So 14 shaves with this blade (4 passes) so far...got 15 with the last one before switching it out. Still relatively sharp and smooth. Craziest thing.

This old soap leaves my face feeling like I just used MWF or IK. This stuff can't be melted and the puck is tiny.......maybe 50g or so.

Another about perfect shave.......something I get in a groove about sometimes. I am a boring bastard.

BBS results,

Martin

THURSDAY EVENING

Prep: Cold rinse
Razor: Gillette Parat
Blade: Personna Med Prep
Brush: Semogue OC Boar
Soap: Klar Kabinett\Wilkinson Sword stick - scuttle lathered
Post: Witch hazel and T&H No 10 balm

A week of cold shaving and a corker to end it. Nice and smooth.

I'm not too sure of this balm. Will have to use it for a bit to see whether it's irritating me or not.

Thursday evening... last home shave before I head off for a long weekend in Limerick ;).

Prep: Hot shower, King of Shaves SuperScrub. Generous sized shower tray and large mirror so I tend to shave in the shower. Keep a tin of blue goo to smear on the mirror as it keeps the condensation at bay!

Razor: Muhle R89.
Blade: Shark SuperChrome.
Brush: Shaving Shack Buccaneer pure badger.
Bowl: Chrome bowl from Executive Shaving.
Soap: T&H 1805 shave cream.
Post: Splash of cold water followed by T&H Trafalgar balm then DR Harris Arlington Cologne.

Wash bag for trip: Parker 96R, one SuperChrome blade, SS brush, empty DR Harris sampler pot refilled with Windsor shave cream, Clinique Men M Lotion, Christian Dior Farenheit EDT. I hand lather while travelling and tend keep the weight down by using moisturiser as an aftershave balm. On longer trips I refill a GFT skin food sample pot to take.

My toughest choice for travel is always what evening Cologne to take. As I'll be spending most of the weekend in a pub I've gone for Farenheit for the smell of spilt petrol with a leathery drydown. Admittedly the T&H 1805 Cologne did get added and removed a few times but I decided the weather won't quite be warm enough to pull off a marine.

Ralph Lauren Safari shaving soap
Vie Long bristle
New Standard with Schick Ultra Platinum (6)
T&H No. 10 balm

Good shave. This brush lathers up really well but it's so damn small. A few cm extra on the handle and I'd be able to hold it properly.
I reckon I can get another good shave out of this blade. Six really thorough shaves already (most shaves having four passes plus buffing)
