S.O.T.D. Saturday 9th June to Friday 14th June 2013 ...

merkur hd
sputnik
muhle silvertip fibre
la toja shave stick
rose of bulgaria AS

excellent shave. first run out with the muhle synthetic and its very impressive, think it may take a few goes to get my head around it properly, but it knocks out the lather very well. a mention for the sputnik as well, its my favourite blade at the moment.

Wednesday afternoon

Gillette face wash
Proraso pre
New Forest 1901
Ingrams cream
Muhle R41 (pass around)
Gillette yellow
Alum and witch hazel
TOBS Mr Taylor's after shave

Bit overconfident after yesterday's good result and was attacked n a cole of places by the bloodsucker razor but the result for all that was a good clean shave with just two passes

Gillette Aristocrat Junior
Personna Lab Blue (2)
Semogue SOC boar
Speick shaving cream
Proraso Aftershave balm

Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet

I decided to bowl lather, so out popped the Woodhead pedestal bowl for its occasional run-out. Speick performed as brilliantly as it always does and the AJ confirmed itself as my preferred TTO.

Bath House Spanish Fig and Nutmeg shaving soap
Vie Long bristle
Progress on 3 with Schick Ultra Platinum (5)
Givenchy Gentleman a/s (vintage)

A higher setting than I normally go for and the fifth shave from this blade. BBS with some micro nicks

Tonight, the second SE shave.

Music: Planet Rock
Prep: How shower, proraso pre-post (just fancied a menthol hit up the nose)

Ever Ready 1912, Gem blade (2)
T&H No. 10 lathered upon my coupon with my trusty New Forest brush

Three slow and careful passes, enjoying the different feel and sound of the single edge razor.

Lovely, smooth result. Splashed on a goodly splash of Floid Vigoroso, which did sting a wee bit but quickly faded.

Definitely going to keep going with the SE shaving, I'm really enjoying it!

WEDNESDAY EVENING

Prep: Cold rinse
Razor: Kai Excelia
Blade: Feather Proguard
Brush: Semogue OC Boar
Soap: Klar Kabinett - scuttle lathered
Post: Witch hazel and Prof Blighty yellow unction

Another good shave (with Parat tidying up on a few patches).

No big cuts again though. I'm either getting more used to straight shaving or the blade is getting blunter! No irritation though so I hope it's the former.

Hot face splash

EJ DE89 Barley
Rapira Swedish Supersteel (2)
MWF F.L.
24mm TGN Finest
Alum

First time with this blade in this razor and seemed tuggy and not getting close enough easily esp. the final ATG 3rd pass so switched blade into Weber bulldog to finish and went well after this for BBS results. The DE89 will take a rest as the shave with Merkur 34C yesterday got closer.

The best shave yet? Quite possibly!

Prep: Long hot shower
Brush: Niva boar
Soap: MDC (on loan from Hairsuite)
Razor: Ever-Ready 1912
Blade: GEM Blue Star (Thanks Dick)
Post: Nivea AS Balm
AS/EDT: C+S Oxford & Cambridge

I had almost forgotten the sound of an SE, it has been so long since I tried one. There is no mistaking it! The GEM Blue Star was superbly smooth and sharp, coupled with a soap that I would now describe as nothing short of amazing. First time I have tried the MDC soaps and I now know I am going to have to buy some. The lather was...well you guys that have it will know what I mean. It hands down beats anything I have tried so far, by a mile.
All followed up with the C+S which I really have to buy. It is lovely stuff that I got in the sample pack a while back. For the first time since I can remember my wife has said "mmmhhhhh that's nice, I reeaaally like that. Can I get you it for fathers day?"
When I told her it was £70 a bottle she told me to Foxtrot Oscar :-(
Seems like I shall have to buy it meself!

BBS and smelling nice!

Yesterday morning:

Prep: Cold rinse
Razor: Dovo 5/8" "best quality"
Brush: Neep #955 soapstone ball and bobbin silvertip
Soap: L'Occitane Cade

This morning:

Prep: Cold rinse
Razor: Cadman & Sons Bengal, 6/8", restored by UKRob
Brush: New Forest High Mountain Badger
Cream: Trumper's Sandalwood

Musgo Real glyce classic soap
Feather Artist Club SS - Pro Blade
Simpsons Tulip T1
Proraso Blue cream
Proraso Aftershave
4711 Eau De Cologne

First SOTD post for a wee while as been busy.
Still amazes me how my little Simpsons brush can make and hold so much lather.

Thursday:

Mitchell's Wool Fat
Semogue SOC Boar
FaTip/Weber Bulldog
Gillette 7 o'clock SharpEdge
Witch Hazel
Proraso AS
Penhaligons Endymion EdC

Great job, nice and smooth. The Endymion was a sample that was PIFd from another forum. Nice scent but very fleeting, I can't reallt smell it now unless I give my wrist a damn good sniff.
