I spotted yet another lucite style on Etsy the other day, just over the £15 threshold. I could get "a thing" for those ... you've got some skill in re-finishing these and getting the knot just right. Yes, that second in looks absolutely superb.

Vulfix 404. Redone in 22mm dense silvertip at 49mm. Great handle and great knot.

I will say, bloody hell! Vulfix don't half set a knot. Needed a jcb to get it out.

Few brushes done recently.

Gimbles 1000, de-knot followed by re-knot.

There was some hardcore glazing and gouges that needed removing.

Restoring the ER was tricky as I wanted to retain the original paint in the knot cup, and any slips when removing the knot would have ruined the look of the handle.

Next up is a bit of fun, it was a two part brush in bad nick, the bottom part I have restored sympathetically, keeping some of the original patina. It's now off to have a new top part made.

Well done!

Thanks Mervyn! Had a family illness so been a bit quiet recently. Just put this big boy together, 26mm overstuffed silvertip set to 47mm, a real lather monster.

Been off the brushes for a while, all I've done is my 400-3 (the numbers after the 400 relate to the loft of the original boar knots)
24mm overstuffed silvertip set to 55mm. Still has oodles of backbone.

If you own a 400 you'll know about the tarnishing issue, all I do is give it a quick rub with some 20000 grit micromesh. It's more like a polishing cloth than sandpaper.

Greg, would a clear laquer not help? I use one called Envirotex Lite, for finishing fishing lures. It's mainly used for kitchen units and is very tough, hard wearing and above all, very waterproof.

Thought about lacquers, problem is it's ally, so it instantly oxidises.

They are a bit of a pain, but I quite like the burnished look on mine, adds character.
